Guitarists and bassists will appreciate the iO Dock’s guitar-direct switch, enabling them to play, perform and record right into amplifier- and effects-modeling apps. They can monitor on headphones, and independently control the levels of the two outputs, each on its own knob. Recording musicians will appreciate the iO Dock’s direct-monitor switch, which enables them to toggle between the incoming and playback signal on their headphones. Rounding out the iO Dock’s output section is a composite video connector, enabling users to employ the iO Dock as a source for video projection behind bands on stage, or for connection to most televisions and computer monitors.
RUGGED RELIABILITYThe iO Dock was built for the real world. Whether you're keeping it in the safety of the studio or taking it out for recording or performance use in the club or on tour, the iO Dock will not only deliver the connectivity you need for audio applications, but it also serves as a rugged, protective case for the iPad. The iO Dock completely houses the iPad on the bottom and three side surfaces. Turns iPad into a real piece of usable gear!March 23, 2012

Review by FlammpunktI am a musician I eat sleep and breathe music... so when i got an iPad I instantly started trying to figure out how to make music with mine. There are some great apps like full ports of Rebirth, and Alchemy, as well as stripped down versions of Maschine, FLstudio, and GarageBand, not to mention Korg has been full steam ahead making more awesome apps than i can list. But all these great apps are nothing more than toys if you have to use the touch panel screen to play sounds that you can only hear or record through a 3.5mm jack.
This Piece of gear takes the processing power of your iPad, and the apps that get more and more impressive every day, and turn it into professionally usable gear. Hook up a midi keyboard, and you now have 100 new pieces of gear, that all have professional quality inputs and outputs. VJ's can also even use it to get video output (which may well be my next big project)!
It's LOUD... You won't need a preamp with it AT ALL... and the sound is crisp and clear.
When I asked my professional musician friends that had already integrated iPad's into their rig it was #1 on every one of their lists as must have accessories. Now that I have heard it I see why!
The only negative I have about it is minor. It was initially built for iPad, but iPad2 (which 100% works with it) is slightly thinner, and takes an adaptor to fit snuggly. Alesis will send you one for FREE when you register your IO Dock on their website, but of course they want the serial number etc., so it will take a couple days of your new gear being right in front of you except for that part. It IS still usable and will work while you wait but i wouldnt recommend moving around with it until you get the adaptor.
Yes, I recommend this product. -

Review by bFunkThis is a super-cool gig "station" for solo artists. Particularly, this is incredibly useful in a church setting where it's just you, your guitar, and a mic. And now your iPad playing loops, too. For live settings it's really great.
For a recording studio, it's OK. The hardware itself is good. It's the software end that's frustrating; I just do so much better with my computer mouse editing audio that it's not going to replace my desktop.
For mobile recording, however - wowza. If you're on location and if you don't have to multi-track drums (Recorderman is about as good as this will get for you) then it's another totally solid solution.
It's a very COMPLETE piece of hardware. Mic inputs, MIDI connection, and it even powers the iPad (so you're not trying to power the device off your iPad's battery instead). I haven't figured out what to do with the USB MIDI connection yet - it's a Type B connector so that implies it connects to my PC maybe? The footswitch input is awesome for use with GarageBand if you have an electric guitar you're inputting.
Best and only solution of its kind for the iPad. Every musician with an iPad should look into this.

Review by JordonThe Alesis Io Studio Dock has revolutionized the way at home recording artists record their music. With the IO dock all you have to do is plug in your Ipad and launch garage band and start recording. With the Hi-Z inputs you can plug a guitar or bass right into this unit! No converter box needed!!! It also comes with optional Phantom Power! that means you can plug a condenser microphone straight into this untit without needing a converter!! Alesis has made an amazing product, but they didnt stop their, they even added midi plug ins plus a midi usb plug in. This dock can truly transform your ipad into a small convenient recording studio!!
Yes, I recommend this product.
