These are the tools you're looking for, pro

Snarky headline aside, this is a really excellent DAW. I was originally a Sonar user but I came to appreciate Pro Tools when MP Essential was bundled with an interface I bought. After playing around with that for a while, I upgraded to the full M-Powered 8, then up to the full version of 9 (which allows you to use any manufacturer's hardware), and now finally 10. Everything I could do in Sonar was just easier in Pro Tools. Synths are attached directly to the track, automation is easy (and full-featured), sends and plugins make sense...it's very apparent why this is the "industry standard" (not that I care; I'm not going into a studio. I just want to make music).

So the stuff that's new in 10 is mostly under-the-hood stuff that will pave the way for a fully 64-bit version of the DAW. RTAS plugins still hang around, but they're going to be replaced by AAX, which shows up in this version. They're really quite similar to Apple's Audio Units (and if you browse the installation folder, you'll see that they're just bundles like Audio Unit plugins). They also kind of "give away" that 64-bit is coming as they have a folder (currently empty) for the x64 binary.

That's not to say that there aren't some great user-usable features here. The new Channel Strip plugin is easy to use and works great. Real-time clip gain and gain automation are maybe originally intended for video post-production, but they're really useful in music, too. If you DI record a guitar, for instance, over the course of a couple different sessions and you find that they aren't volume-matched going into your plugins, the results sound different. Adjusting the gain in real-time helps with that. Or on a vocal where the vocalist is moving around , you can automate the gain on the clip to fix a couple words that got too quiet. I'm using it for all kinds of stuff.

So this is the version you're looking for. It's totally great and you should jump on if you're looking for a DAW. There's plenty of instruments and loops included to get you going, but more importantly it's a very easy to use program and has tons of powerful audio manipulation features.
Yes, I recommend this product.
