Welcome back to the Help Desk with UniqueSquared.com. It’s another day and we’ve got another answer to one of the many questions we get here at UniqueSquared. In today’s Help Desk video we’ll be talking about the difference between keyboard controllers and keyboard synthesizers. Enjoy!
Hello my name is Chris here with the UniqueSquared Help Desk. Today we’re going to be talking about keyboards, but more specifically we’re going to be talking about the difference between keyboard controllers and keyboard synthesizers. Ok so on my one hand I have a keyboard controller on my other hand I have a keyboard synthesizer. What’s the difference?
Well my keyboard controller has no sounds of its own. There is no sound built in I can’t just plug it into my amplifier and just start making music, nuh uh, I need to plug it into an external source which already has the sounds recorded for example if I plugged it in via USB to my computer and opened up a software that had all the samples already recorded then I could use my controller to control those sounds hence the name keyboard controller, but you can’t play any sounds off of this without an external source.
Ok. On my other hand I have my keyboard synthesizer, now this synthesizer has all kinds of sounds built into it I can effect them right on the keyboard, I can change them I can play them right into my amplifier and I don’t need anything else to do it but the keyboard now I can also use my keyboard synthesizer as a controller, but, it doesn’t go the other way around.
So there you have it that’s a basic rundown on the differences between a keyboard controller and a keyboard synthesizer. Check out UniqueSquared.com where we have great prices on all pro audio gear. My name is Chris and I’ll catch you guys next time.
