‘Concatenative Synthesis’ Lets You Play Anything With Anything
An interest and experimental patch created by Rodrigo Constanzo has recently been implemented to work with an open source application known as CataRT. Constanzo’s patch, called C-C-Combine, changes the way audio is triggered by a controller. Instead of using mapped sounds and precise planned sequences in a DAW, C-C-Combine analyzes audio on the fly to produce simultaneous noise – based on the audio that is picked up.
Using this patch requires a bit of knowledge about it inner workings, and may be over the heads of novice users, but Constanzo has done his best to make it easy for anyone to use. While it may see chaotic in the way it executes these notes, the patch has some serious potential.
