Court Rules Minnesota Woman Must Pay $222,000 to the RIAA for Sharing 24 Songs on Kazaa

In an unfortunate twist on an old lawsuit, a Minnesota woman was ordered to pay over $200,000 in fines for her involvement in downloading 24 songs from Kazaa, a peer to peer file sharing program.  While hundreds of thousands of music listeners are guilty of downloading songs from the internet on a daily basis, few of them are actually taken to court over the matter.

Jammie Thomas-Rasset had originally had the case dropped due to the ludicrous fines involved for her infraction, however the RIAA pushed at the matter and had those hefty fees restored.  The lady is expected to once again appeal the court’s decision.
