Teenage Engineering Says ‘Print Your Own Accessories’! Should More Companies ‘Open Source’ Their Parts?
Since musicians like to keep hold of their prized synthesizers until they crumble to ashes, it’s not surprising that repairing these instruments is no easy task. Unless you have a capable grasp on your engineering and designing skills, the chances of you fabricating your own replacement parts is nil. Shipping a few odd parts from a manufacturer that lives 3000 miles from your house is also uneconomical and not cost effective.
The folks at Teenage Engineering have been working to combat this problem by offering the blueprints for open source parts. This allows an average user to ring up the CAD files on any manufacturing system and “print” their replacement parts.
