The $29 BassBoy MIDI Bass Synthesizer

Modders, tweakers, and benders will be delighted to hear about the arrival of a new digital midi synthesizer kit, called the BassBoy.  This compact printed circuit board is small and seems to only have 1 audio jack on board.  Created by MikroElektronika, its purpose is to generate monophonic bass lines from a direct MIDI input.

The unit is built from an oscillator which creates saw, and square waves using a limited number of wave tables.  Although it is not very robust or modular in its basic form, it is capable of reproducing a wide enough array of midi notes to create something as complicated as the song in this demo.
