Squier Strat Guitar Offers USB & iOS Connectivity

Rock bands aren’t the same as they used to be.  There may be no more “Led Zeppelins” out there, in the sense that the band no longer consists of just drums, mics, guitars, and amps.  Modern bands would be fools not to take advantage of the digital technology that surrounds them.  Effects like echos and filter can all be applied digitally with much less effort that it used to take.  Bands who take advantage of digital recording and manipulation also have an easier time producing they type of sound that they want.  Guitar companies aren’t blind or deaf, and they know that USB compatible devices are in great demand.

Squier is now offering a Stratocaster with USB connectivity which will allow you to plug it directly to a USB device, say an iPad.  The deal breaker is that the guitar still functions like a regular electric guitar – so it’s still a standalone instrument (versus a controller that must be connected to a computer).   While this seems like a logical step to take, it isn’t the first time this idea has been thought of.  In fact, IK Multimedia has already created the AmpliTube iRig for guitar – which allows you to do exactly what Squire was trying to accomplish.
