Apogee Quartet Now iPad Compatible
A USB audio device can come in many flavors depending on what exactly it is that you need and how much you are willing to spend. If you do not care about having any versatility and just need something to replace the input jack on your computer, you can literally spend a few bucks and get an audio to USB converter on eBay. Granted, it won’t be of high quality – but you will still end up doing something very basic that has never been accomplished before. Once your realize that you are sick of recording radio quality, is time to step up to something that has a bit more power.
Apogee makes perhaps the most expensive external soundcards that will work with Mac systems – but it isn’t just about cool packaging or snobbery that makes them cost so much. There are very few multichannel USB solutions that are worth the cost. Consider Serato’s SL3 soundcard that works with either the Mac or the PC. It will allow you to have three separate audio inputs, but you are limited to using the soundcard with one piece of software. Apogee’s newest Quartet soundcard allows up to 4 inputs and 8 outputs – now with iOS connectivity as well.
