Productivity Hacks and Time Management Tips For DJs and Producers
To be a successful DJ in the modern era, you need to be more than just a good DJ. It sounds rough, but being able to mix a few sets on stage doesn’t make you the DJ that it used to be – you need to be exceptionally good and creative if you want audiences to remember your name. In this day and age, it’s harder to promote yourself, even though it may seem like the opposite. A DJ has to divide their time between practicing their technique and promoting themselves, and some may do a half assed job at each. Nobody can do everything well, so sometimes it pays to just focus on one aspect of the art at a time, rather than trying to be a jack of all trades.
Ideally, it would be nice if we all had booking managers – but we don’t. Therefore, it is best to divide your time organizing and practicing. Learn to practice without interruptions and without too much self critique, after all, you are your own worst critic right? On the managerial side of things, do you best to promote yourself but be realistic about where you stand in the community and know what you are capable of.
