Launchpad For iPad Review & Demo

If you cannot afford a controller for your production setup, then you probably need to reexamine your priorities when it comes to making music.  Perhaps you spent too much money on an awesome monitor to view your session mode in Ableton, and now you are forced to activate each sample using the dreaded keyboard.  Well, fear not – there is always a cheap way to control and produce your music, and it starts by owning an iPad.  The iPad is a big investment no matter how you justify it, but when you consider the type of hardware and desktop software that you can own for a fraction of the price, the cost may be worth it in the long run.

The Novation Launchpad is perhaps one of the best deals that can be had for any producer looking for a controller.  As it is built for Ableton, the workflow should be instantly recognizable, and the cost of it is more than justified.  Novation has recently created a new app called the Launchpad for iPad, but it is much more than the software version of the hardware controller – it actually contains some of the functionality of Ableton, meaning you won’t need a separate computer to use it.
