What’s The Best Synthpop Track Ever?

Even if you weren’t born in the 80’s when the synthesizer revolution was taking place, you can still appreciate some of the well known synth-pop hits on radio, and they’ll probably be around for another fifty years before it is time to call it quits.  Few can argue that the music wasn’t unique; it was produced by instruments that had never existed and the upbeat themes of songs from that area are unmatched by today’s standard.  Like all genres, there are of course some cheesy elements that have degraded the style, but as of today only the hits are well known.

Regardless of who thinks what songs are best, the era of synth-pop music was the first to show how technology could really change the culture.  Even though these artists were given new tools to create music, how they used it was completely up to them.  With their own interpretations of the song, they still produced music that was catchy and mainstream.  We see the same type of cultural effect today with genres like dubstep, which were created from the abuse of digital technology (in a good way).  Perhaps technology will drive our cultural changes in music, in the future.
