‘Incredible’ Maschine Jam

To be a DJ with worth that goes beyond that of a radio station, you need to go beyond the single dimension of mixing track to track.  There are DJs that make it their night’s goal to mix each song using a slightly different method.  It is much harder than it seems, as not every song wants to line up with the next using a specific transition.  There are better alternatives that trying to using transitional techniques and one of them is to stop DJing and start performing.  Yes, sometimes you have to go beyond the scope of a DJ and see yourself as a musician, or even a producer.

Controllers may be suited to activate cue points or small one shot samples here and there, but newer model controllers with all sorts of extra features can handle heavier tasks which are much riskier live.  The Maschine for example can act as a passive controller to use every so often, but in the right hands it can be used as in instrument of live production.  Of course, there is the risk that you may perform with it poorly – but without this risk, the payoff would never be as exciting or raw.
