Keyboard, Plus iPad: iMIDIPatchbay Will Let You Set Up Live Keyboard
The iPad has certainly found a spot for itself in the hearts and minds of DJs, producers, and musicians. Once thought to be mere toys that saved the lazy man a few minutes of wiring, these devices are now being put in charge of some pretty big responsibilities. At first the iPad could not do more than hold its own as a digital musical device. This means that a hardware keyboard for example could be digitized and represented on screen with the touch of a few keys. Users quickly realized that this was not the most efficient way to use the tablet. The latency and lack of solid keys and buttons made it hard to use with precision.
The next step was to use it as a MIDI controller that allowed you to plug in a controller and have it be virtualized. This is where we are at today – but even this is not good enough for some people. Now, the ultimate use of the tablet (iPad or otherwise) it to make use of it as a mixing board or routing device for other objects. Instead of using it as an instrument it can actually be used to route instruments together.
