Smack My Batch Up Automates Sample Processing

One of the most difficult aspects of using a VST plug-in in Ableton, or any other plug in for that matter is understands how it truly works.  For most of us, it is magic.  We take an instrument and apply some effects to it and out comes the type of sound that we want.  Some of us would prefer to have a more in-depth understanding of how it all works together.  Unfortunately, this is above and beyond what we can understand without looking at the code itself.  Fortunately, smart developers have made it possible for us to basically explore the possibilities, with any sound.

This plug-in known as “Smack My Bitch Up” actually takes an existing sample from a plug in and applies effects to it to create a new plug-in.  The workflow is brilliantly laid out on the screen so any user can understand how this plug-in is affecting their music.  It isn’t pretty, but it doesn’t need to be.  It is truly so simple that a caveman could do it – not that a caveman belongs anywhere near Ableton.  But I would say that some of the music that is being produced today sounds like it was hit over the head with a club.
