Chris Karns – How To Set A Trap

What happens when a local turntablist makes it big by winning a world competition?  I’ll tell you what happens; nothing changes about their lives, other than perhaps the fact that people suddenly know that person by their name.  There is no real money in battling.  That’s not to say that there isn’t prizes on the line worth a few thousand dollars, but it is not something a person can live on for the rest of their lives.  They need to use what little success they have wisely, so they can make money off of it afterwards.  DJ Vajra is one of the few vinyl turntablists left in the United States, and is one of the few modern DJs to have the respect of both young and old.

He now goes by his real name Chris Karns, but he hasn’t forgotten about his turntablism roots.  His original style of music comes back to funk and the classics, but every so often he rips up a few modern records to prove that style and technique can overcome genre of music any day.  In this short video clip he is showcasing his skills with a new genre of music called ‘trap” music.
