Traktor Settings and TSI Files

Key mapping and controller MIDI mapping within Serato is about as simple as it gets.  On the upper right hand corner of the screen there is a “Midi” button.  Once this button is pressed any successive button that is pressed with not function like normal, instead you will be asked what key you would like to map to it.  Press a button on your MIDI controller and it is not instantly mapped to control that button.  It is pretty straightforward, but there can be some difficulties like remembering to open up your FX panel before trying to use a mapping key.  In the setup area, these maps can be saved and recalled in case you’re swapping different controllers in your system.

For Traktor, midi mapping is much more complicated but it is not because of the way Traktor maps keys – it is because there are so many things to map.  The FX controls are much more robust and can be mapped in different ways that are beyond anything Serato can do.  A single knob can even be mapped to control more than FX at the same time.  For this reason, *.tsi files or MIDI maps are always being saved and shared for others to try.
