Working Backwards

Every band or act that goes on to produce an album has to do so with some sort of budget.  Money, like other facets of our lives, can be extremely limited or even non-existent.  You can imagine just how often a band or act has the right attitude and the right talent, but lacks any means of making their music come to life.  In the romantic version of a band’s claim to success, they are the ones who were picked out by a record label after playing a few live shows at a local gig.  We all wish for something like this, but rarely is it the case that everyone goes a certain way that we like.

Some acts eventually have to raise them money themselves – so not only are they committing their free time to creating new songs, they also have to come up with a chunk of change to support themselves and take a gigantic risk.  How much money are we talking about here?  If you want to do it the right way, with proper studio time and media releases – you are talking about thousands of dollars.  It can cost a band up to ten thousand dollars to get their first cd out.
