Novation Launch Control – a box of many uses

I think that most of us know by now that there is no such thing as a perfect, one size fits all controller.  Some have come pretty close in that respect, but the gear companies have found that it is better to create many controllers that cater to different needs, rather than going for the gusto on one piece.  The Novation Launchpad might be considered an exception, given its price versus features.  It is cheap enough that you don’t have any worry taking it out with you – yet its size is in the perfect zone to perform with without hassling yourself.  So what does this controller lack?  It lacks knobs and faders.

Yes, if you are only activating clips all night long, then all you really need are one shot sample buttons to engage clips here and there – but if you want to control something like the intensity of an effect, you really need a rotary to do it manually.  Novation has just introduced the Launch Controller, and yes, it controls your Novation Launch Pad.  It was designed at the same width as the Launchpad so that it can fit directly underneath or above the controller you already own.
