Why Won’t My DJ Splitter Cable Work?
Music technology has opened the doors and changed the way we even perceive music in the first place. Technology that was never meant for music making has found its way into the homes and hands of creative producers looking to create the next new sound. The irony of this technology is that we sometimes find ourselves using old ways to get around new problems. I think computer stands are a good example of how a new technology can actually give rise to a problem – as in, where to mount the laptop that was never supposed to be there in the first place. What is also strange is how iPads and iPhones need to basically be hacked in order to be of any use to a DJ.
There is only 1 audio out connection on a smartphone – yet DJs need to make use of two of them to properly cue their music. Instead of this being handed at a programming level, it is handled at the operator level, by making use of a simple cable splitter which has been around since analog electronic instruments were invented. I don’t see these simple innovations ever going out of style either, although they shouldn’t need to be used.
