Alesis DM6 USB Express Kit Electronic Drumset Review
After the Video Taylor from Unique Squared commented on the DM6 Express:
“The Alesis DM6 Express is everything you could want in an electronic drum kit, and your neighbors will thank you everyday for it. The affordability makes it a good starter kit for beginners and a great practice tool/controller for the professional. Get your groove tight with the built in metronome. Use the USB out to record the drum intro for your new song. Take it on the road, use the pads and module with your acoustic kit, and show everyone your versatility. There are so many applications with all the things you get with the Alesis DM6 Express.
Having the USB is what gives the DM6 express its many options. Lets say you want to go to a live gig with the Dual Zone snare pad as a controller for two extra sounds. Just plug the module into your computer, load your samples/effects, then line out of your computer. Its that easy. Then you can take it home, set it back up with your other pads, and start practicing for the next gig.
I always stayed away from electronic drum kits in the past because I never liked the rebound on the pads, felt they were too uncomfortable to play on, and hated messing with wires. On the DM6 express the pads have a nice fluid drum feel. The rack is sturdy and able to be positioned with a wide range of mobility. What’s also great is the wires are all hooked up to one plug so no clutter of cables.
The guys at Unique Squared had to drag me away from this kit. I had so much fun with it and couldn’t believe all the features that were on there. We had a chance to hook it up to GarageBand and played around with the different drum tracks on the software. A really outstanding piece of gear.”

This four-piece kit gets you started on a dual-zone snare pad for two-sound compatibility. You can dial in a snare drum sound in the center and a rim click, rimshot, or something totally different like a cowbell on the rim.
The DM6 USB Express Kit also comes with two tom pads, an upright kick drum pad, hi-hat and crash cymbal pads. It even comes with an Alesis bass drum pedal and the kick pad is compatible with any single or double bass drum pedal for your personal feel.

Transcript:Hi this Scott Magno aka DJ MadFlip here with UniqueSquared.com to introduce another cool product for you called the Alesis DM6 Express. This is a really awesome, compact, portable, electronic drum kit that also can be used as a controller for your drums that’s compatible with every major recording software out there. Me being a DJ, unfortunately I couldn’t do it justice showing it to you so I’m going to so I’m going to bring in my friend Taylor. Alright thanks Scott. So I’m going to run you through some of the functionality of the Alesis DM6. First thing that we’ve got is your pads, so we’ve got your snare pad and your two toms. The snare pad is cool because you have the ability to not only hit it on the top, but, you’ve got this rim section here and you can apply all sorts of different sounds, so if you want to throw a cowbell or something like that on the rim you can do that, which is pretty cool. These pads feel great, they’ve got this soft rubber feel which is quite different from other kits which have that hard rubber surface or mesh heads. So if you want something in between these are great. You can really stick your stick in there too and it feels like a real drum head. These cymbals are great I love the pads on them, they’re not really too hard but they’re not too soft either, they’re just right. They’ve got this real nice feel to them and you can adjust the volume on them, like, the harder you hit it the louder it’s going to be and then, if you hit it softer you can hear that as well. Next let’s talk about the pedals, I really like these pedals, I mean, they’re not going to slide around on you at all. You can like, lift this high hat pedal up and you can almost see the carpet coming out from underneath it, it’s really cool. This kick pedal is great too. What’s interesting is that if you want to hook up a double pedal, if you’re one of those players that wants to have two pedals you’re totally able to do that. The pad is even big enough to get both of your pedals on there. So now let’s talk about this module that we’ve got over here. First we’ve got this save feature so if you want to lay down a beat and record it right into the module, you can do that. You can always go back and reference it if you’re going to use it for multiple drum tracks or if you just immediately want to record something, a beat that’s been flying around in your head and you’ve got to get it down you can record it to this thing really easily. So on the back you have the ability to obviously put your headphones in, you can also put your mix line in which allows you to hook up your iPod or CD player and you can play along to all your favorite songs or something you wrote. Just kind of pop it in, and start practicing or recording. You’ve also got your USB out, now this is key if you want to start recording and what’s great about it is that it works with almost all software. So if you like recording with Garageband, Logic, Ableton, or Pro Tools, pretty much every software is going to work great with it and they’ve got their own built in drum tracks on that software. So if you start getting tired with the Alesis drum sounds and you want to start working with something in the software, you’re totally able to do that and it makes playing really versatile. It makes this whole kit awesome, you can just have so many different options for the sounds. So I’m going to go ahead and play you guys something to just show you what it sounds like. This is just a real basic sort of kit. So there it is the Alesis DM6 Express. A ridiculously affordable compact kit for beginners, intermediate, and pro’s alike. Also as a controller so you can use it in studio production as well. Please feel free to call me here at UniqueSquared, if you have any other questions. My name is Scott Magno DJ MadFlip.
