Numark Mixtrack Pro Review

MadFlip’s Thoughts:

Hot Cues, Loops, and Effects

Rather than an EQ kill section on the MIXTRACK we reviewed last month, this has a Hot Cue, Loops and Effects section that allows you to map cue points in your mix and add effects. The loop section also features an automatic loop feature to set up quick loops in preset measures.

Responsive Turntables

The turntables on the MIXTRACK PRO are extremely sensitive and allow you to scratch and nudge. By turning off the scratch feature, this allows you to use the entire plate to nudge. These are responsive turntables and allow you to really get into what you are doing.

Virtual DJ LE

This is a new software that comes with the MIXTRACK PRO. It works really well with this controller and maximizes the new features of the MIXTRACK PRO. This does not limit you to only this software as it is compatible with virtually all DJ software.

Built in audio interface

This is a big upgrade to the MIXTRACK because now you don’t need to purchase an additional audio interface. The MIXTRACK PRO is virtually plug and play and even features a microphone input with it’s own volume control.

What comes in the box:

(1) Numark MixTrack Pro

(1) USB Cable

(1) Stereo RCA Cable

Quick start guide

What Numark says:

Complete digital DJ performance.

MIXTRACK PRO is a complete DJ system that works with the music on your Mac or PC. MIXTRACK PRO’s classic two-turntables-and-a-mixer setup connects to your computer so you can scratch, mix, loop, and much more. MIXTRACK PRO has all the inputs and outputs you’ll need for your headphones, speakers, and a mic. Plus, MIXTRACK PRO is portable, so you’ll always be ready to DJ anywhere.

Control Comfort

MIXTRACK PRO has two decks, each with a large, touch-sensitive turntable for accurate scratching, beat juggling and locating precise points within your tracks. It’s just like working with a record. In addition to the two decks, MIXTRACK PRO has an easy to use audio mixer so veteran DJs and beginners alike will be able to step right up and get the party going. If you’re DJing for the first time, MIXTRACK PRO is a great place to learn because your skills will transfer to any other DJ system.

Software Sync

MIXTRACK PRO comes with the powerful Virtual DJ LE software, which makes it easy to mix your favorite music. Virtual DJ LE works with your iTunes music library and enables you to sort your music by genre, BPM and artist. You can create professional sounding mixes at home and even perform live at parties, functions and clubs! MIXTRACK PRO is also a MIDI-over-USB controller, so it’s compatible with virtually all DJ software.

Super Sound

MIXTRACK PRO, while a powerful controller for software, also houses a complete audio interface, which enables you to input and output high-quality sound. Whether you’re connecting MIXTRACK PRO to the computer, to the sound system, for recording, previewing in headphones, or talking over the music with a mic, MIXTRACK PRO gives you all the inputs and outputs you’ll need.

In conclusion, when you think about what you are getting, this is probably the best bang for your buck for a portable DJ Controller with included Audio Interface.  At a retail price of $250 this is a great product for an aspiring DJ or someone who needs something portable to practice on.

How you doing, this is Scott Magno DJ MadFlip here with to show you the new, Numark Mixtrack Pro. You may be familiar with the Mixtrack, we had that product, very successful product. This is going to be awesome because originally with the Mixtrack you had to have some sort of audio device to get it situated but now with the Mixtrack Pro you don’t need that anymore. All you need is a laptop with some music and you’ll be ready to go.
We’ve got two master outputs here for audio. You’ve actually got a headphone output so you can actually monitor direct from turntable to turntable, and you also have a microphone input with its own separate volume knob.
Pretty much the same layout. This is going to come bundled with virtual DJ, I’m very excited about that. I’m actually not very familiar with that software, but I’m going to tell you that it is very, very, easy to use.
Just from the layout alone, it is very symbiotic to the controller itself, I dig that. Plus it’s got a whole bunch of effects that weren’t available with some of the other softwares out there. Makes it really easy to get in the mix, which is where we are now. So, I’m going to show you a couple of things that happen differently with this that I really, really, dig.
First of all we’ve got this track going on, I can really get my hot cues in here and set that, and that’s really cool. I actually like to do my loops in two different ways. I like to have it in auto mode where I can select 2,4,8, and 16 measures and just be in and out just with the touch of a button.
So, I’m going to go ahead a mix something in and show you some of the things. I actually use the browse feature to select my second track. I actually like this track I think it’s a good place to mix so I’ll go loop out, or loop in. Now I’m selecting this track, wait, make that a longer loop.
Now I’ve got this mixing, I can cue it up using my headphones now that I’ve got that ability. Speed up. I’m using my pitch bend to get it right about perfect on there. But you know, I can actually sync it to get right on. Because I want to be perfect in my mix. See I’ve got the bass, mid, treble on here to get my track perfect. Before, it was different with the Mixtrack, you actually had the kills up here but I like that I’ve got the cues in.
I’m going to use one of my break effects on the out here, this is actually a backspin, let’s try it and see how that sounds. Pretty cool, takes it right back into the mix too, I did not lose my mix there. Mixtrack Pro very simple to use. I think I’m very impressed with this. This controller has every feature that I need for my performances on stage. It has, you know, good mixer, good responding turntables. Scratch there too, there it is.
It takes a little getting used to but honestly, pretty good. I can actually sync that up real quick. I’ll show you all just how quickly that can happen. Right there, It’s that simple.
So again, I don’t really want to go too far into this, I could really get lost in this piece. I think you guys are really going to love it. If you have any questions please feel free to call us here at

  4. Daniel says:

How is this better than BCD2000, for a beginnerg that wants to use it for learning how to mix?

    1. djscottmadflip says:

The Mixtrack Pro and the BCD2000 are great beginner controllers, but we like the more fluid response of the jog wheels and construction of the Mixtrack Pro over the BCD2000. It really becomes your preference. You also have to decide which software you are more comfortable learning.

  5. MRJ says:
This guy uses the mixtrack pro well, i wana learn how to do this.

  6. Supabee45 says:

i’m having a problem recording live gigs using the mic, it doesn’t record at all, everything else records, but the mic doesn’t. What am i doing wrong, and how can i get the mic to actually records?

    1. What software are you using with it? Make sure you have the mic input enabled in record settings.

  7. Run a portable Skatepark and indoor soccer with a Fender 250 PA and Idjay via IPad 2. Would like to take it up a notch and would like your advice. Considering the IDJ3, Mixtrack Pro, and IDJ Live. Obviously a beginner with the intent to be a bit more professional. We’re looking at stronger sound reinforcement down the road…QSC K12 or new JBL setup.

    1. ariff says:

Both QSC and JBL make great products with the QSC being slightly better than JBL. I depends on what size you want and how much you want to spend on the PA system.

  8. John says:

Can mix track pro work with ipad2?

    1. ariff says:

Don’t think it can because it doesn’t have a USB in.

  9. K.D.C says:

I will be getting the Mixtrack Pro on 04/09/2011, can’t wait. I have read a few reviews and it sounds promising so far, I hope it lives up to the reviews. I have used VDJ for while and I am sure I can overcome any problems that arise.

  12. Soundbite says:

How do you set up the mixtrack pro so that you can preview one track while the other is playing so you can cue up the songs and make sure the beats are matched before you send it into program?

    1. ariff says:

There should be a headphone cue button on the unit for each deck.

  13. Sam says:

Witch mic can i connect to the mixtrack pro?

  14. Filip says:

Do i need a mixer to connect the mixtrack to pa speakers ? I im going to perform with mixtrack pro but i dont know how and witch speakers mixtrack works for.

    1. ariff says:

You don’t need to plug into a mixer since it has 2 master outputs that you can plug directly into powered speakers.

  15. luke says:

hi some stores are selling it with a discription that it comes with serato dj intro and tractor . yours comes with vdj what is the difference

    1. ariff says:

The newest batch of Mixtrack Pros that ship from now going forward will be shipping with Serato DJ Intro. We may still have a few that have Virtual DJ LE.

  16. A.A.S says:

does the mixtrack pro have a filter knob or effect like on VDJ?

    1. No, but it can be assigned though.

  17. Baran says:

I just want to know if MixTrack Pro would satisfy my needs. I am looking for something intermediate, I cannot effort something professional such as s2, but would this be enough for me? or any other suggestions do you have for me? may be american audio vms2? or reloop? thanks a lot
