Behind the Scenes: Mackie ONYX Blackjack Video

Behind the Scenes: Mackie Blackjack Video

Hey guys, we wanted to give you a little teaser of our next product review.   It’s a brand new product from Mackie that’s not even out yet, the ONYX Blackjack.  This is a 2×2 USB recording interface that includes two of Mackie’s sick flagship ONYX mic preamps. Don’t let its small size fool you, it’s definitely legit, and it will be available soon. Here are some behind the scenes pics of the video.

We know, we know, our videos have been looking kind of “fuzzy”, but we finally figured it out, and this one looks killer!

P.S. we are audio guys, so it took us a few tries.  The full HD video is coming soon. Stay tuned!…

Logic vs. Pro Tools (Part I)

Logic vs. Pro Tools

This is Part 1 of a two part article comparing Logic and Pro Tools.  I wrote this down and realized it was so long it was worthy of two posts.  So here’s part one for you.

In the beginning, there was ether and chaos all around. Then Al Gore Jr. enabled (not invented) the Internet to come about. Then, there was more chaos. It is on the Internet where you can find plenty of embittered people arguing why it is either Logic or Pro Tools that you should use. I choose both. It is from this position that I argue their merits. Not in any real depth, but in simplicity. Sometimes too much information is just that; too much information.

Have you ever been on the fence about making a move in life; you talked to two more people and then decided you didn’t know what …

Audio Interfaces 101 (Part II)

Topics we’ll touch on:

  • USB vs. Firewire vs. PCIe
  • Latency
  • Sound Quality

Myths abound in the audio world and it makes perfect sense as to why. If you’ve ever seen a demonstration by a speaker engineer or talked to one it makes your head hurt. You’d think something so common as a speaker is pretty much known inside out by now and there are no more mysteries. But, these engineers, like many engineers, are walking around with math equations bouncing around their heads to help solve simple problems – like, pushing air to sound just like (or better than) what’s coming out of a computer or MP3 player.

What I should say more succinctly is that the components in a recording studio are so complex it’s no wonder there is so much misinformation out there. Let’s start with one of the biggest in terms of an audio interface.

USB vs.

M-Audio Axiom Pro 61 Review by TJ from AVID

Our buddy T.J. Martin from AVID stopped by the office to talk about the M-Audio Axiom Pro 61. We asked him, “what makes this line from AVID “Unique” (haha)” and he responded with these points.

  • They are a surface controller that does MIDI. Not a MIDI controller that can control your DAW.
  • M-Audio’s Hypercontrol does bi-directional talk with a DAW or VI without using a shell/plug-in in the background. This uses less CPU power then.
  • There are two main modes: DAW surface control and Plug-in control. You can map any parameter to any fader, knob or button you may need.
  • It is the only controller on the market that is mapped out to control Pro Tools – HD, LE or M-Powered.

Here’s more in depth information touching on T.J.’s points:

Enhanced DAW Integration with HyperControl Technology

Thanks to revolutionary M-Audio HyperControl technology, your Axiom Pro 61 controller will automatically …
