Every once in while a new product is introduced to the world that redirects the path of existing trends. In the DJ world that product is the Xone DB4 by Allen & Heath. The DB4 comes equipped with a built-in 24bit/96kHz, multichannel, fully patchable USB2 sound card and it is also MIDI compatible. It also boasts a Quad FX Core DSP effects engine borrowed from to the Allen & Heath iLive pro touring console with the effects tweaked just a bit to be more relevant to electronic and dance music for a DJ performance. The layout and design is state of the art but you will find some semblance to Allen & Heath’s vastly popular Xone:92 mixer in terms of the stellar filters on the lower left and right of the channel faders. If you’ve enjoyed several of our events like our Beat-B-Q at SXSW, or the recent ‘Can You dig It?’ Remix Contest, than you have undoubtedly been exposed to some of this man’s work. Matt Diamond is an East Coast-based music entrepreneur who has had several years of adding substance to the many layers of the underground Hip hop scene. In Alkota’s interview, he reveals many of the intricacies involved in guest features in today’s music with his Coalmine Records imprint.
There are some misconceptions to be wary of when selecting a feature. If you’re a lesser known artist with a notable feature, you can certainly expect more activity. It of course could be the difference between having your song posted on a blog (or not) or even receiving a “New & Notable” feature on iTunes, which can certainly help boost your retail

We are all about discovering new talent on many different levels. In terms of DJ controllers we as consumers are fortunate that the market has become very competitive and there are so many good products to choose from. Our friends at Reloop sent us the as of yet unreleased Reloop Jockey III ME (Master Edition) DJ controller and we gave it a test drive in our studio.
What stands out first about the Jockey 3 is it’s full metal bulletproof construction. Obviously this controller is built to withstand the rigorous demands of a touring DJ in an agressive night club environment.
