NI Traktor Kontrol S2: O Lil’ Brother, Where Art Thou?

Native Instruments recently announced that their new Kontol S4 will be in stores in October. As always, we are excited to see new products from NI considering the success of hotties like Machine and the S4. The S2 is a 2 deck Traktor controller based on the popular and ever dominating 4 deck S4 controller.  Here’s the black and white:

  • Integrated DJ performance system
  • 2+1 Setup: two playback decks plus comprehensive mixing and effect features
  • High-resolution jog wheels
  • Ergonomic controls for cueing, looping, and effects
  • Integrated 24-bit, 96 kHz sound card with its dual stereo outputs
  • Traktor Pro 2 software adds up to 8 simultaneous one-shot samples or beat-synced loops to the mix
  • Plug and play configuration
  • Backlit control elements
  • NHL protocol

Essentially, the S2 let’s you rock on 2 decks plus 1 sample channel with the same awesome effects, looping, and hot cues as it’s big brother S4.  It …

One MusicFest in Atlanta, GA | Unique Squared Mobile Studio

This past weekend we were a part of a great, young festival, native to our hometown of Atlanta called the One MusicFest. Featured performers this year included Anoop Desai, Tortured Soul, Kyron Leslie, Anthony David, Foreign Exchange, The Pharcyde, and Chrisette Michele. And with Phife from A Tribe Called Quest filling the role of event host.

The weather was perfect for this event which was held at Park Tavern in Piedmont Park, Atlanta.

Edwin McCain Live Recording and interview | Unique Squared Mobile Studio

Edwin McCain

Recently we had the pleasure of hosting some great guitar playing and singing by Grammy-nominated musician Edwin McCain on board the UniqueSquared Mobile Studio.

Edwin and his personal sound engineer Brent Moreland were inside the Unique Squared Mobile Studio to talk about the PreSonus Studio Live 24.4.2 since it is the mixer of choice that they use while out on the road. With 11 albums in the bag and a wall of platinum and gold albums that have sold in the millions, the main thing Edwin is concerned with is, ‘the moment’:

it just has to do with people coming together and sharing a moment, that’s it. And that’s all I ever wanted to do. I just love that moment in the small club and bar where every single person in there has a moment where it’s silent and they get it and it’s beautiful, that moment where

Novation Makes Me “TWITCH” Review

As we learned months ago Novation was releasing a highly anticipated “controllerism” inspired Serato Itch controller.  Many of us saw the initial video and marveled at it’s unique layout and advanced functionality.  We finally got one in which magically coincided with Serato’s release of Itch 2.0.  We agreed that the Twitch merited some additional footage and documented it’s arrival and first impressions before we really got into the nitty gritty.  Here is what transpired.

First Impressions

The Twitch is a smaller controller compared to the usual suspects that occupy the market which I see as an advantage considering this is a niche product that probably won’t become standard in every nightclub or venue.  The layout is a little different, too.  The “juicy” area consists of 8 small pads on the lower left and right of the controller that trigger 4 performance modes. Above those is the Performance Mode selector buttons …
