Sometimes you just have to chill. We’ve all been there before, whether it was behind the decks or in the vicinity relaxing on a comfy couch, bean bag, or fouton (whoa, with the early 90′s) with great chill out or down tempo music spilling out across your lobes. The “Chill Out Room” was a mainstay at almost every rave that I attended in the 90′s, and even now at after parties you might still find DJs laying down silky tunes not necessarily for the dance floor. I am completely blown away by so much chillwave music these days mostly because of the ambient, shoegazer qualities. The filtered vocals and synths are reminiscent of some of the best synth-pop and ambient electronic music from the 80′s and 90′s like The Cocteau Twins, Massive Attack, FSOL, and Tangerine Dream. Even now the odds are pretty good that you can find …

The UniqueSquared Mobile Studio presents a Live5 Showcase each season of the year. As the Spring approaches, it is time to have more local bands perform a live, free show. The Spring Showcase will take place at the Five Spot in Little 5 Points, Atlanta and the date of the event is special, as it only happens once every 4 years. Leap Year Day, February 29th at 8PM, doors will open for a show featuring three bands hailing from South Carolina and Georgia. Their sounds vary from folk, rock, blues, all the way to “slippery.” Here’s a preview of who to expect at the Spring Live5 Artist Showcase.

This mapping may not work with the latest version of Traktor.
A couple weeks ago, we got a Numark N4 into our studio and tested it out. We used the unit with both Virtual DJ and Serato Intro, which are both included in the box. What we found is that the N4 is one of the best DJ controllers for an intro DJ looking to be able to do video DJing too. Since the N4 is built for video DJs in mind, one thing we noticed that was the availability of hotcues on the mappings for Virtual DJ and Serato Intro. We really wanted to be able to have access to hotcues when using the N4 with Traktor and built a mapping with this in mind.
To start out with a structure for the mapping, we used what Numark provided on their website for mapping the N4 with Traktor Pro 2. The …

As we start a new year it’s hard not to reflect on what we have accomplished in years past, but yet it’s harder still to try and predict what this wonderful world of DJing has in store for us in 2012. I see a major change in my musical direction, albeit more of a 90′s revival of sorts for me personally, integrating more of my original music in my sets as well as playing less dubstep for dubstep’s sake. It’s over anyway, Bieber made it so by simply uttering the words “dubstep” from his magical mouth when asked about his new record. Of course, I’m kidding. ANYWAY, here are some bold predictions for 2012:
The Diminishing State Of The Internet Free-Jay Nation
