QuNeo Rogue Video Talkthrough

Keith McMillen’s QuNeo has not been forgotten about.  His kickstarter campaign to fund the project not only allowed this controller to be created according to the general public’s want, it also showed the gear community that items could be created from the bottom, up – rather than just the top down.  Aside from manufacturing difficulties that come with any sort of production, it proved that public demand could actually create a product, instead of it being forced upon us by well known brand names.  McMillen has many other projects besides MIDI controllers to worry about, but he hasn’t stopped trying to innovate new ways to give controllers a more “human” touch.

His QuNexus was his following project which attempted to push innovation on the technological side, rather than just the design side, but it also gave us a clue into the mind of McMillen and how he tackles the issue …

Frank Ocean and Chris Brown in Fight at L.A. Studio

As successful as music artist can be, they can’t escape the fact that they’re human.  With success comes responsibility, but aspects like humility and jealousy are hard to control.  When artists, who are at the pinnacle of their career, come together, the results can be marvelous or disastrous.  Although it seems to be more common among hip-hop and R&B artists, it doesn’t mean that it is a phenomenon that is strictly for their genre – you can expect any two artists competing against each other to harbor some sort of resentment for another’s success.  We are only human right?

Chris Brown, who doesn’t exactly have a noteworthy record with the general public, was stated to have gotten into a scuffle with singer Frank Ocean.  The two of them happened to be at the same recording studio, where they argued over a parking spot.  Fighting then took place, which left both …

Rick Ross Was the Target of Drive-By Shooting

There are very few rappers left in the game that can still say they live the life they talk about in their music.  It swings on both ends of the spectrum and it’s somewhat odd when you realize how success can change a rapper’s life.  Some rappers talk about their devious crimes and thuggish lifestyles, but live exactly the opposite – free from the streets and any sort of activities they speak of in their music.  I mean, once that is gone the only real thing you can communicate in your lyrics is how good your life actually is now.  Then there’s the rappers who have truly came up from nothing, who aren’t rich – yet their lyrics say exactly the opposite; that they’re living these extravagant lifestyles.

Rick Ross is a producer and rapper who can say he’s lived both.  He might have came up in the drug game …

Behringer iX16 iPad mixer dock

For all of the possibilities the iPad opens up for you, it isn’t the most proactive device when it comes to tying components together.  Either Apple has failed to see the underlying need to have peripherals connected to their device, or they do, and they want to look at other ways of approaching the problem.  Only have a 30 pin connector (or lightening connector) and a standard audio jack outlet, has been a severely limiting problem with the iPad.  But then again, it was never meant to be used as an active device with inputs, rather, it was meant to be a passive device to looking and listening.

Accessory makers like IK Multimedia have honed in on these issues, creating an accessory for just about any need you may encounter.  One such product is the audio dock, which turns the iPad into a physical mixing board, not just a virtual …

Novation unveils the Launchkey range of MIDI controllers

Using a keyboard to activate MIDI functions will never go out of style, even with all of the newer modular and pad based controllers available for consumers.  We can use the Launchpad until our fingers go numb, but it will never replace the original need for MIDI, that is, controlling a virtual piano keyboard.  This is why companies like Korg and Moog are still pursuing the keyboard layout in their designs, and it is why the keyboard layout will be wanted for years to come.  Akai has made some progress by combing elements of the keyboard and button mashing controller, but it is perhaps Novation who is set to bring it all together in one complete piece.

Novation has exposed their line of MIDI Launchkey controllers, which at first glance, look more like something Korg would produce in their line of workstation keyboards.  If you look again, you’ll notice the …
