NAMM 2014 | JBL EON 615

The JBL EON series of portable PA speakers are some of the best around. The series has been very successful at combining a level of quality synonymous with one of the oldest loudspeaker companies, and a price point that suits a portable PA system. This year at NAMM 2014 JBL showed us the latest iteration of the EON series with the EON 600. We got a chance to check out the EON 615 which features the latest waveguide technology in the horn from JBL’s other speakers and studio monitors. The woofer has what JBL are calling “pattern control aperture” which helps to keep the speaker sounding great over a wide dynamic range and with even dispersion.

On the back you have volume control and two XLR inputs as well as a thru output. On the back you also have presets depending on the demands you have for the EON 615 …

NAMM 2014 | QSC TouchMix Series

We’ve seen some pretty awe-inspiring digital mixing consoles over the last few years with a huge range of size, functionality, and affordability. Nearly every level of user experience and price range has some kind of digital mixing console within reach on the marketplace. The really innovative ones are the mixing consoles that are compact, affordable, and still offer a wide range of professional capabilities. A lot of times these consoles are iPad dependent meaning that most of the digital mixing functionality is controlled via an installed app. The QSC TouchMix looks to break the mold a bit with the inclusion of their own touch screen included on the TouchMix 16 and the TouchMix 8.

The TouchMix series of digital mixing consoles have all of the things you need to get a quality mix like graphic EQ, FX controls, filters and limiters, as well as phantom power on all the inputs. …

NAMM 2014 | Korg RK-100S

Korg had an interesting showing this year at Winter NAMM 2014 from the more niche oriented build-it-yourself MS-20 to the teeny tiny baby grand pianos. They also had showings like the new keyboard controller the Korg Triton taktile. But one thing that stopped us in our tracks was a reissue of the classic Korg keytar. The RK-100S looks and sounds great with plenty of control via the keys as well as two separate, assignable ribbon controls.

With the same modeling engine as the MicroKorg XL, you have plenty of options for sounds. You can have analog modeling, digital synthesis and PCM sounds. The RK-100S also acts like a controller and can connect via MIDI out and USB. There is also a connection for a microphone for use as a vocoder.¬†With colors ranging from red featured in the video above to black and white versions, you can pick a design that …

In case you came here and never saw our overview of the System 10, be sure to visit our blog post of the System 10 from NAMM 2014. While we weren’t able to get a direct line from the System 10 for the most pristine audio fidelity, this demonstration should give you an idea of some of the sounds you can create and manipulate with this compact and affordable semi-modular synthesizer.

Feel free to give us your thoughts on the System 10 in the comments section below and keep looking out for more videos from the show floor at the Winter NAMM show 2014.

NAMM 2014 | Pittsburgh Modular System 10

Modular synthesizers are typically out of reach for most consumer level buyers considering their large size and even larger price. This is usually because these devices are hand made and with the best components money can buy. In the case of a company like Pittsburgh Modular, they used the same core low pass gate filter from the original Korg MS-20 in their brand new System 10 semi-modular synthesizer, but somehow managed to keep the price point appealing to a wide range of budgets.

Pittsburgh Modular says that the System 10 is a very modern and aggressive sounding synthesizer which is exactly what it delivers. But the real standout feature is its unbelievably low price for what you are getting. It is fully patchable, has a complex waveforms oscillator, and a high quality, linear response, voltage controlled amplifier¬†transcript. This is a very practical and fun device for the synthesizer¬†enthusiast…
