Mackie Thump 12 Overview

Mackie have been putting out some great loudspeakers over the past few years with a wide range of power handling. Their latest release is an update to the already popular THUMP line of speakers with the Thump 12, Thump 15, and Thump 18S subwoofer. We decided to take a closer look at the Mackie Thump 12 for those of you in need of a new set of powered loudspeakers.

Power and Design

The Mackie Thump 12 and 15 both feature 1000 watts of class D power. They feature 12 and 15 inch woofers respectively and both have a high quality 1.4 inch Titanium Dome Compression driver. The internal parts are all housed inside a rugged polypropylene casing which make the speaker both lightweight and durable. This is pretty standard for most newer loudspeaker enclosures and keeps the Mackie Thump 12′s weight at around 29 lbs. There are handles on both the top and the side making the Thump 12 easy to get in and out of your gigs.

On the back of the speaker you have the option to adjust a 3 band EQ and even control the frequency with a sweepable mid range. Printed below the I/O are settings for adjusting the EQ depending on the application you are using the speakers for. There are settings for PA, DJ, Monitor, or Speech.

The Mackie Thump 12 features a Mic/Line combination input as well as an XLR Thru output. The Mic/Line input is great for connecting your mixing console to the input with either XLR or 1/4 inch cables, but if you don’t have a mixer you can easily connect a microphone directly to the Thump 12.

The Thump series are mostly known for their ability to put out some serious low end and the new Thump 12 is no exception. If you are looking for a portable powered loudspeaker thats lightweight and packs a punch, the Thump 12 is a great option to consider.
