Apogee MiC Review

The Apogee MiC is a portable cardioid condenser microphone that works with iOS devices as well as Mac (and only Mac) computers. It’s incredibly easy to use, the sound quality is great, and it’s so small you could throw it into your guitar case or even in your back pocket. Just like its cousin, the Apogee Jam, it has some built-in features that are very handy.  It’s got a design similar to most studio microphones but more importantly, it’s got the same heavy weight as well. It’s got a full metal casing. Unlike some of the the other iOS USB microphones out there, this mic is built to last.…

Apogee Duet 2 Overview

The Duet 2 by Apogee is a portable audio interface renowned for its sound quality. Hook it up to your Mac, and you’ve got the ability to make a professional recording anywhere you can take your computer. And not only does it offer pristine sound, but also advanced features that you don’t see on other interfaces in its range.

When Jeff dropped by our production studio to give me the Apogee Duet 2 for review, he couldn’t stop raving about the digital-to-analog converters in the unit.  A while back, he decided he wanted to sweeten his digitally mastered tracks by dumping them onto tape, and he got a 1st generation Duet to make that conversion happen. He only had good things to say about the results. I was excited to get the new and improved Duet 2 fired up for inspection.  The sound was amazing. Jeff was impressed. The sound …

Apogee One Review

Apogee ONE is a one channel interface that converts your analogue signal to digital so that you can record right into your computer via USB. Like the other Apogee products we have covered in the past few weeks this one is designed to work specifically with a Mac but that’s cool because it works with Core Audio Compliant. What that means is that Logic, MainStage, GarageBand, Final Cut Pro, Cubase, Pro Tools and many other software programs will recognize the Apogee One. The unit itself can record at 44.1 or 48kHz which is nice because I could really see editors using this unit as well as music producers. Come to think of it, they really should be marketing this thing to editors more, as an editor myself I would love to be able to just plug a mic in and start recording HQ sound. I couldn’t wait to get it …

Apogee GiO Overview

Apogee recently released an effects pedal-board interface called the GiO, which lets you record hands free.  The GiO has footswitches to let you Record, Go to Beginning, Rewind, Fast-Forward, and Play/Pause so you can focus all of your attention on practicing and recording that one lick flawlessly.

Setup

The GiO comes with a 10-foot USB cable, a ¼” to dual RCA phono cable, and a CD with drivers and a PDF manual. Just install the driver, launch your music application, and then hook it up via USB. There’s no need for power cables because this unit is bus powered. Then plug your guitar into the ¼” instrument in, add some headphones  through the ¼” output, and add an expression pedal through the dedicated ¼” jack. The GiO supports sample rates of 44.1 and 48kHz , at 24-bit resolution. NOTE: when you are setting up the GiO, make sure you launch …
