GTFO Killed Us: Unique Squared In Studio With MixTrack Pro

We sometimes have artists and DJs stop by our studio to check out some gear.  They give some of the new stuff a spin and we like to get their views and opinions especially if it’s something they’re not familiar with.  Such was the case when acclaimed Atlanta DJ GTFO came by the HQ for the Numark Mixtrack Pro Challenge.  He, like many other DJs who use a traditional performance set-up of 2 turntables or CDJs and a mixer, has made the switch to using a controller almost exclusively for his live performance.  We challenged him to throw his set down on what many consider to be a “beginners” DJ controller, the Mixtrack Pro.  We captured the performance and then spoke afterward about what he thought about it.  Here’s the scoop.

The DJ Life And Timeslots: Creating Your DJ Write-Up

I have been lucky enough through the years to see some incredible DJs and Live PAs perform at numerous events and parties all over the U.S.  Some have been superstars worldwide and others have been local up and comers on their way to national and international acclaim.  Like many of you, I’ve discovered these artists through various forms of media like online forums, blogs, social media, youtube channels, music websites, and even in print via club flyer.

Well established acts need little introduction really, just a cool photo, their name in their own unique font, and a brief write up describing their latest single or label affiliation.  Other artists or acts that are in support usually require a little more information in their write-up in order to educate what style of music they play and what type of record label or DJ collective affiliations they are associated with. Basically, a “these …

Stanton SCS.4DJ Controller: Look Ma, NO LAPTOP!

Stanton Magnetics introduced the SCS.1 System in 2008 and they were one of the first to introduce a universal controller for virtually your choice of DJ software.  Since then they have made leaps and bounds in the controller market by revamping and perfecting their flagship SCS.1 system which we previewed at Winter NAMM this past January.  Now they are introducing a new ground breaking controller that fully integrates your computer, software, and controller.

Enter:  Stanton SCS.4DJ.

There are a number of similar looking controllers on the market that this closely emulates and right off the bat we can see that the standard issue features are there.  There are 1/4″ balanced TRS and RCA unbalanced outputs, a 1/4″ mic input, large transport and sync buttons, large jog wheels, loop section, and 2 channel mixer with 3 band EQ and cross-fader.  There is an FX section with 2 adjust knobs and …

Unique Mobile Studio At Scratch DJ Academy With Numark WMC 2011

Winter Music Conference 2011 certainly was a blast this year.  We had the honor of partnering with Numark’s DJ Sir Charles and Mike Hoska for the unveiling of the Numark NS6 at the Scratch DJ Academy in Miami’s design district.  The atmosphere was electric at the academy filled with turntablists and DJ enthusiasts from around the world.  They gathered together to check out the new gear and to get their turn in the scratch session that included some of the best in the world.  DJ Immortal the director and head instructor of the academy was a gracious host and his staff conducted demos and giveaways that kept the party at peak all night.

Mike Hoska was on hand presenting and demonstrating the NS6, the long awaited 4 Deck Serato Itch controller that’s coming out very soon.  Numark also set up the V7 Itch controller with the X5 battle mixer, …
