The hidden costs of MP3s

To somebody who was born in the last decade, the story of how the MP3 came to be might sound very impressive.  In only a short period of time, we went from recording sound on magnetic tape to actually beaming it across the air through invisible electronic fields.  It went from something that was slightly comprehensible to something that seem like magic to most of us, and is when you think about it.  The unintended consequence is the one you will never see, except if you were around during the transition away from other types of media.

See, before digital music, music was actually pretty expensive.  It was also sort of hard to keep your media from being destroyed in the process of using it – so it made it something to desire.  Records were played and then put back into their sleeves for later use.  These days, I’ll leave …
