The BPM Show comes round quicker in 2013

There is much more than just research and development that goes into the production of all the new toys we obsess over, on the internet. One could create the best MIDI control since sliced bread – or even reinvent the turntable altogether, but this still wouldn’t be enough to get it going in the production factories. It comes down to trade shows; where manufacturers, retailers, vendors, and creators all gather together and perform the Macarena in unison. Well, maybe they don’t dance – but they’re all involved in carefully woven spider web of products and interests that dictate what will and what won’t be the next big thing on the shelves.

For those living in the USA, NAMM is where it’s at. NAMM, like other trade shows, is restricted to only manufacturers, retail companies, and selected talent – the doors are not open to the public. Companies get the chance …

Vestax PBS-4 Web Broadcast Mixer

There are plenty of easy ways to broadcast your own live show – and plenty of websites that facilitate the process; mixstream comes to mind when I think of live web shows.  The problem is that you’ll need to have your own cheap webcams, audio input devices, and computers to map everything out.  The result is sometimes less the desirable, with wires strung about the place and latency issues between microphone and video.

Vestax is working on the PBS-4, which hopes to be a simple all-in-one device to manage all of your peripherals.  The unit has options for various devices such as VGA and HDMI video, as well as RCA and balanced audio jacks – and the ability to mix them all.  Expect to see it soon.…

Post- BPM carnage — film at 11

Ever wonder what it’s like to cover your own booth at an electronics convention?  It’s not all fun and games – its work.  Besides having qualified talent to interview product creators and test new pieces of DJ equipment, you also need your own slew of equipment.

Camera, microphones, and recording devices – you name it; all of these expensive pieces of gear need to be packed in and packed out like an intense backpacking trip through the remote urban jungle.  Djworx was on the scene with their survival kit, and will hopefully be bringing audiences some more quality equipment reviews once the dust clears and the video editing settles.…

BPM 2012: Best Of The Rest

The 2012 BPM show has yielded some surprising results, and some that have already been sensationalized by internet leaks and rumors.  The Electrix Tweaker box that was previously talked about was revealed in its square-ish glory for all of those Traktor heads who were looking for alternative controllers.

Pioneer’s DDJ-SX was shown off in person, and it turned out to be nicer than the teaser photos of that were released.  The controller was built off of the DDJ-S1 design, but was built specifically to function with the new Serato DJ software and includes 8 velocity sensitive pads right at your fingertips.…

BPM 2012 Is Here

If you live in sunny and sometimes unbearably hot Southern California, then you have probably heard about the NAMM show where DJ equipment companies get to show off their latest offerings and prototypes to look forward to in the near future.  For our friends across the pond, this is quite the trek and can be difficult and expensive.

The flipside is that they have their own “NAMM” over there and it’s even more focused towards DJs (not just musicians in general).  BPM 2012 is Europe’s time to host manufacturer’s latest gadgets and innovations.  Hopefully we see some legit gear this year to add to our collections.…
