I think there is a strong connection between science fictions and many of the devices DJs and producers use to create and channel music to audiences. Both of these subjects rely on a strong sense of mystery surround the art. It is something that may be easy to understand in theory – if I told you how a DJ mixes two songs together, it doesn’t sound that complicated, but actually mixing them is a different story. In fact, it would be considered hard for anyone who has never touched the decks in their life. Take a look at a pair of CDJ’s and it looks like some futuristic console that drive a space ship, rather than a device that plays music.
The similarity between science fiction and music technology just goes on and on. In the latest version of the movie “Tron”, there were even EDM producers featured in the …

Who doesn’t love an artist in a mask? Masks are nothing new and I think there is a trend surrounding them. There are even artists out there who we only know by their mask or their logo. Deadmau5 is one that comes to mind the most – in fact, most of us wouldn’t even recognize his actual face if we saw him, but the mouse ears are something we can all relate to. Another artist who is known to don the mask is MF Doom. He does this so well that it’s rumored that he even has MF Doom doubles that make stage appearances for him when he doesn’t want to get out of bed.
Do DJs need to wear a mask? Probably not. Once you lose eye contact with your dance floor you’ve separated yourself from your constituents. Of course if you’re a mobile DJ who is trying to …

Love him or hate him, Deadmau5 won’t quit and he’s announced a small collaboration with guitarist and singer, Ryan Adams. This is all news that was posted on Ryan Adam’s twitter page. What type of music will come from a guitarist and an EDM producer? Who knows. They make a brief allusion to the Eagle’s Don Henley and Blade Runner, which really says nothing.
Aside from the announcement, nothing has been set in stone; no clips of audio and no dates of any releases yet. It is, however, nice to see Deadmau5 working together with someone and perhaps learning to play well with others.…

Producers and DJ’s: tune in for this final part of Le Castle Vania’s interview. If you are an up and coming artist, you should give this a listen. Wanna-be’s and copycats plague every genre of music and it’s no surprise. Just turn the radio dial to a Clear Channel or Cumulus station and listen to the first five songs that play. Le Castle Vania doesn’t say anything revolutionary in this part of his interview, it’s not the first time anyone has ever said it, but the more advocates that come forward and say it and the more artists will take the message to heart. In case you missed it, you should also check out Le Castle Vania talking about his personal studio gear.
My advice to DJ’s and producers that are trying to come up is to always be aware of what’s going on in the sound but …

Ok… So I am having a hard time here. The new Deadmau5 record came out today. It bears the name “>album title goes here<”, and right down to the lower case letters, there is precious little surprise with this name. Honestly, I feel like there is precious little surprise to anything about it… or, I felt that way til I got towards the end… but we’ll get there.
The truth is, Joel Zimmerman has reached a point where he could be forgiven if he came out in the press and said “I piss excellence.” Not because he is infallible, but because the love of his music, whether assisted by a freakishly wise participation in all things internetz, or a crazy light show assisted cartoonish mouse mask, remains impressive in its reach. He’s done a pretty good job of building his name and communicating with his fan base; which includes methods …
