NAMM 2014 | Pittsburgh Modular System 10 Demo

Richard from Pittsburgh Modular shows us some of the sounds you can create with their brand new System 10 semi-modular synthesizer. In case you came here and never saw our overview of the System 10, be sure to visit our blog post of the System 10 from NAMM 2014. While we weren’t able to get a direct line from the System 10 for the most pristine audio fidelity, this demonstration should give you an idea of some of the sounds you can create and manipulate with this compact and affordable semi-modular synthesizer.

Feel free to give us your thoughts on the System 10 in the comments section below and keep looking out for more videos from the show floor at the Winter NAMM show 2014.

NAMM 2014 | Elektron Analog Rytm Demo

Just showing off the features on the Elektron Analog Rytm is clearly not enough. We wanted to hear how this thing sounded and we are pretty sure you do too. To quell your insatiable appetite for all things Elektron, we shot a quick demo video with Cenk from Elektron Music Machines at Winter NAMM 2014. Elektron should have more demo sounds in the near future but hopefully this will tide you over until then. Be sure to check out our overview of the Elektron Analog Rytm from NAMM 2014 in case you missed it and keep looking out for more videos from the show floor in the coming days.

BOSS RC-505 Demo with Angel Sheik

While Angela Sheik provided us with a great overview of the BOSS RC-505 tabletop looping station, we wanted to see it in action. In the video above Angela demos the RC-505 with her signature style, but also gives some insight into how she became a looping artist, what looping has done for her compositions and performances, as well as other loop artists that inspire her. If you are a loop artist or interested in becoming one, Angela has some great tips on what something like the BOSS RC-505 can do for you.

Angela was quick to prove why she was the 2011-2012 BOSS Looping Champion. She is quick to turn vocal beatboxes, hummed bass lines, and vocal melodies into performance pieces that lend themselves to fully formed compositions very easily. With influences like Imogen Heap and Massive Attack, it’s interesting to see and hear how Angela’s live looping has …

Arturia MiniBrute Overview

If you read much about the Arturia MiniBrute in synth forums, you’ll be hard pressed to find anyone outside of the most absurdly elitist of synth snobs saying anything bad about it. While it is their first foray into proper analog hardware, Arturia have brought into the world a tough little synth with features not often aligned with the price point of the MiniBrute. They have been hard to get ahold of, but I finally picked up one during the brief second we had them in stock.

One of the nicer features that I don’t really touch on during this brief overview video is the aftertouch. While I mention it in passing, I don’t go on and on about just how rad aftertouch on an affordable analog synth is. So let me do it here: OMG YOU GUYS!!!! AFTERTOUCH!!!!

That said, it really is quite a nice option to have …

Moog Factory Tour: Etherwave Theremin

In this part of our Moog Factory Tour series, Jim Debardi explores the history of the theremin and its relation to Moog Music Inc. The theremin is not only the oldest electronic instrument, but it’s also the instrument that laid the groundwork for Bob Moog’s legacy with electronic instruments and synthesizers. Be sure to check out our Moog Factory Tour Introduction and be on the lookout for the remaining parts of this series.

Just like in our last post, we will use this post to give you the latest news from Moog Music Inc. On the heels of the release of the Animoog V2 iPad App comes the incorporation of the Grateful Dead Expansion Pack. This pack takes the sounds from the Grateful Dead’s Feb. 14th 1968 performance at the Carousel Ballroom and turns it into a pack that features 82 presets and 45 timbres for use within the …
