NAMM 2011 and 2012 saw the unveiling of a whole host of DJ controllers from some of the top manufacturers including Pioneer, Numark, Denon, Vestax, and even the illusive Native Instruments unveiled their Kontrol F1 at an off site location in 2012. NAMM is also the place where a lot of companies allow the public to play on their new designs in an almost faux test market to see how people react and then subsequently make a few last minute adjustments. NAMM 2013 was no exception in this regard but Numark was really the only company unveiling a high performance controller with the Numark NS7 2. Denon, Marantz, and Boston got their chance to show off some of their newest gear the 2012 CEIDA expo. What caught the attention of audioholics the most was Boston’s M-Series speaker towers, which performed with clarity while listening to a Dire Straits album. Perhaps Boston might be “Sultan of sound” in this case. These tower speakers put out performance that left audience members guessing if there were actually subwoofers hidden somewhere in the room.
Denon’s 9 channel receiver was also a big surprise which delivered surround sound to the movie “Tron”, vertically and horizontally, which would simply be impossible using a typical 5.1 surround sound system.…

Even with all of the digital hardware out there that allows the DJ to bypass CDs and vinyl in favor of mp3’s, there are tons of DJs out there with stacks among stacks of CDs with organized set by BPM and genre. The task of copying and converting 1000’s of songs back to mp3 just isn’t appealing or time effective.
Thankfully, Denon is still producing CD/mp3 players with this understanding and their newest edition, the DN-4500 MK2, retains the rack mounted characteristic of dual CD players – while adding USB capability to keep up with the needs of times. The DN-4500 MK2 also includes a track search function for those who have trouble keeping playlists up to date.…
