Behringer CMD DV-1 Overview with Andrew Luck

The Behringer CMD DV-1 is a modular MIDI controller designed to be used with digital vinyl systems (DVS). There are controls to select between 1 of 4 decks with the A-D buttons, making it easy to load tracks and switch between control of each deck. There are controls for looping, FX control, hot cue assignment, and deck focus among others. DVS DJs will find this to be a nice low profile and low cost solution for extended control over software functions that may not be available on a CDJ or turntable.

As with all the Behringer CMD modular controllers, every function on the CMD DV-1 is MIDI mappable meaning you can assign any of your software’s functions to whatever physical control you desire. While the CMD DV-1 ships with Image-Line’s Deckadance DJ software, the DV-1 and all the other CMD controllers can be mapped with the software of your choice. …

Behringer CMD LC-1 Overview with Andrew Luck

The Behringer modular MIDI controller in the CMD line that can be described as an Ableton Live workhorse has got to be the CMD LC-1. Before the CMD LC-1 there were only a couple of controllers that could integrate this well with Ableton’s session view for launching clips. These included controllers like the Akai APC 40 and we are beginning to see more Ableton integrated controllers such as the proprietary controller Ableton Push. Now with the Behringer CMD LC-1, there is an affordable, modular solution for performers to control their Ableton Live sets.

Andrew Luck does a great job of going over the way Ableton integrates with the CMD LC-1 in the video above, but it’s worth mentioning some of the construction features of the CMD LC-1 for those looking to grab one.

The overall construction of the CMD LC-1, as well as the other modular MIDI controllers in the

Traktor Kontrol Z1 Review

We could call this the year of the modular DJ controllers. There are only a handful of companies putting out new, all in one, DJ controllers because frankly there are very few design improvements that warrant making a whole new controller. Instead we are beginning to see more and more modular setups to accommodate a new era of DJ. A DJ that can show up to a gig with a couple of very small modular controllers and an iPad or small laptop. For the more discriminating DJ this may be seen as dark time for the craft, but for the more forward thinking performer this opens doors to a whole new level of possibilities.

Those posibilites are becoming much more streamlined as evidenced by the latest controller from Native Instruments with the Traktor Kontrol Z1. This two channel DJ mixer, soundcard, and MIDI controller can connect to your computer …

Numark Orbit Review

One of the first things we saw at the NAMM show 2013 was the Numark Orbit wireless DJ controller. There was a lot of buzz from the early press day on through the week about Numark’s latest DJ controller. After the initial high wore off, many bloggers and gear heads began to wonder whether or not the Numark Orbit could be used in a performance environment and be used well. Well we took it for a test drive to see if it has performance potential and we found that it actually holds up pretty well. Many DJs may scoff at that sentiment, but we found it to be quite fun and had several folks around the office, who weren’t DJs, playing with it, sounding great doing it, and having a lot of fun. We also had more skilled DJs pick it up and see the potential for dynamic MIDI mapping …

Behringer CMD MM-1 and PL-1 Review

We have been covering the Behringer brand of DJ controllers which all fit under the moniker of CMD. The demand from those of you out there to want to know everything about these affordable MIDI controllers has prompted us to give you as much information as possible. We also have all of them in our possession and are surprised each and every time we grab a new controller and start playing with the controls. While our last two reviews were of the all in one controllers, the CMD Studio 4a and the CMD Micro, we decided to dive into the slimmer and more function-specific modular controllers in the CMD line.

Instead of reviewing all of the controllers in the Behringer CMD line individually, we decided to couple the MM-1 and PL-1 because they are a good representation of how these modular controllers can be linked up and it will give
