Behringer CMD DV-1 Overview with Andrew Luck

The Behringer CMD DV-1 is a modular MIDI controller designed to be used with digital vinyl systems (DVS). There are controls to select between 1 of 4 decks with the A-D buttons, making it easy to load tracks and switch between control of each deck. There are controls for looping, FX control, hot cue assignment, and deck focus among others. DVS DJs will find this to be a nice low profile and low cost solution for extended control over software functions that may not be available on a CDJ or turntable.

As with all the Behringer CMD modular controllers, every function on the CMD DV-1 is MIDI mappable meaning you can assign any of your software’s functions to whatever physical control you desire. While the CMD DV-1 ships with Image-Line’s Deckadance DJ software, the DV-1 and all the other CMD controllers can be mapped with the software of your choice. …

New TRAKTOR CONTROL VINYL from QBert

It is interesting to see how the big two, Native Insturments and Rane, have decided to choose which artists they want to represent them.  In a way, it’s like the draft for DJs and artists.  Each side needs to choose the right set of artists so that their fans will gravitate towards their products.  I will say that Serato doesn’t have the most interesting guys and girls on their team.  Many of their artists are what would be considered underground artists, such as D-Styles, and these aren’t the guys who hear about first or the ones who are out there steadily promoting themselves.  On the other side, Native Instruments has a steady slew of well known artists, such as DJ Craze and Qbert.

It makes me wonder if these artists know that Native Instruments will be the top dog in the long run, or if they are simply getting paid …

ION’s Scratch 2 Go – a sucker for iPads

Blending the gap between hardware is a goal that every gear manufacturer is heading towards whether they realize it or not.  Hobbyists and home hackers are the revolutionaries leading the movement, even though they’re the ones who aren’t making any money off of it.  But this is what the community ultimately needs if they ever want a small idea to become something big.  The first part of blending hardware and software has already been achieved; it is sort of the Web 2.0 of DJ gear where a computer and turntables can be used in conjunction with each other.  The problem of needing two separate pieces of gear has shown itself however, and various conflicts between the two still exist.

Tablet technology has played a small part in bridging the gap by changing the way we input information into a DJ setup.  It removes the need for external hardware bits like …

CMD DC-1

The Behringer CMD DC-1 is a MIDI controller much in the same vein as the Kontrol F-1 with pads to launch clips and endless rotary encoders to control effects, loops, or whatever else your imagination can map to this. The real appeal of this controller is its compatibility to whatever setup you currently have. For instance …

NI’s New Traktor Scratch Certified Mixer & DJ Controller

Native Instruments has been a contender in the DVS industry, and has recently created momentum for itself in the controller department.  DJ’s no longer fall in the Serato camp or the Traktor camp, they seem to lie in the blurry spot that rests between them.  Fortunately, NI has been hard at work creating a DJ mixer that will hopefully “put it all together” – offering the versatility and capability that their controllers brought to the digital DJ domain.

There is not much specific information on the mixer itself (other than teaser photos and speculation), but we do know that it will be a marrige with Traktor in the same sense that the TTM Rane 57SL is married with Serato.…
