Sirius XM Party with Liquid Todd – Ultra 2012

When the Mobile Studio team were first told that we were going to WMC and Ultra, we had a very different picture of how it was going to go down.  At first, we assumed we would be parking the bus somewhere at WMC. However, a few of us, including myself, had never been to WMC/Ultra before and assumed that it was just at some convention center somewhere in Miami.  It turned out to be in a tent, no  bigger than a hockey rink, pitched next to the W Hotel on South Beach; literally a stone’s throw from the water.

We had the bus parked out front in the parking lot adjacent to the beach and hotel and began running operations as usual until the second day in which we would begin artist interviews with Liquid Todd of Sirius XM. A normal day on the Mobile Studio is opening …

Numark 4TRAK – Impressions from Product Specialist Drew Hollis at WMC

Numark has provided us with a lot of exclusive access to their gear. When they sent us the N4 we were one of the first dealers to truly get hands on with it and we shared our impressions with the world. This time around, Numark has given us complete exclusivity with their brand new DJ controller, the Numark 4TRAK. This is a 4 deck controller that works seamlessly with the ever popular Traktor software from Native Instruments. Unique Squared is the only retailer in the country with the 4TRAK so we decided to put it on the Mobile Studio and take it around the country. We have met with DJ’s from all walks of life and have been getting their first impressions. We had Felix from Numark get hands on when we were in Austin for SXSW, and he gave us his thoughts on the 4TRAK from a DJ …

Mobile Studio Sessions – SXSW – Kelly McGrath

South by SouthWest is, quite frankly, always a bit of a brain fry. I don’t mind, simply because I have never been there not working. I can’t imagine just attending as the amount of decisions to be made when no one is paying you to be anywhere are just too much. Lucky us, we were working. We were on the job for one of our sponsors, Sennheiser, who were sending us artists from the Paste Magazine showcase at SXSW. Our team split up; with Ariff and Zack off to cover the remainder of the Ambassadors’ performances and Taylor and myself (Lonely Paul) tasked with running the sessions on the bus.

We discovered our rhythm in these sessions as well. My position, while continuously addressed as engineer in the planning phase, really amounts to producer. Taylor, on hand to film the sessions, had spent the previous year working with everyone who …

Reason 6: Interview with James Bernard

So we just wrapped with the final edits on the Reason 6 Unique Perspective and I just wanted to take some time out to put throw my final thoughts down about Reason 6.

When the idea was pitched to do a video about Reason 6 my knowledge of the DAW was, to say the least, weak.  For those of you that still don’t know what Reason 6 is, I’m talking about an all in one music production and recording suite.  It is a complete package in a box and although there are a plethora of recording suites out there, Reason 6 stands out because of it’s ingenius design.  Designed in Sweden this software has a sense of European practicality to it, as everything is laid out in a well thought out and efficient manner.  Throughout the years Reason has been moving closer and closer to becoming an all in one production and creation suite …

Artist Spotlight: Martina McFlyy

How did you get started playing and producing music?

I feel like djing was a natural progression for me, as I started playing the Bassoon in 6th grade and began to excel after my mother put me in private lessons. After getting a full music performance scholarship concentrated in Bassoon to Ga State, I met a dance crew in my sophomore year…began to dance and never looked back. After 5 years of dancing, I was playing vinyl records in my now boyfriends apartment, and started to think I had possibly found my niche. I practiced on vinyl until I went down to Scratch Academy in Miami and learned Serato, scratching, and more beat matching skills. I got my first gig in January 2010 at Halo and opened there every Friday for several months. By November 2010, I booked my first gig overseas in Berlin, Germany.

Lets talk about playing out
