Line 6 POD HD500X Review

When Line 6 put out the the POD HD 500, they kept their ears open to customer feedback about the things guitar players enjoyed, and the things they thought could be better on this multi-effects pedalboard. The culmination of that feedback has brought us the Line 6 POD HD500X. Most guitar players I talk to have a love/hate relationship with Line 6. There are features on Line 6 gear that are really useful, exciting, and sonically superior, and then the opposite tends to be true for the most discriminating of guitar players. After spending some time with the POD HD500x, I found it to be far superior in terms of tonality and control than previous instances of Line 6 multi-effects processors and amplifier modeling. For those riding on the fence about Line 6, it’s worth spending some time to check out all of the features that the POD HD500X …

iPad Controlled Digital Mixing Console Comparison

The Apple iPad has quickly become more than just a tablet for reading books and watching video. It is now a fully functional tool for doing all sorts of things including controlling your home security system, creating music, or having control of your home entertainment system. The pro audio world has found new and interesting ways of incorporating the iPad as well. Keyboard controllers, audio interfaces, DJ controllers, and live sound mixers are all getting a tech facelift with the application of the iPad. One of the more practical and prominent uses has been the iPad’s ability to sync with digital mixing consoles to control everything from monitor mixes to EQ settings. We first saw this with the introduction of the Presonus StudioLive and the StudioLive Remote application.

Since we first saw this at Winter NAMM 2011, more mixing consoles have been showing up which allow for intuitive and wireless control …

Massive Dance Week Las Vegas: Sultan and Ned Shepard Interview

While in Las Vegas for Massive Dance Week at the Wynn/Encore hotel, Lonely Paul and I got a chance to sit down with the artists performing that week to chat about studios, music, gear, and Vegas in general. In addition to some of the well established acts we talked to, we also had a chance to sit down with younger up and coming producers. Sultan and Ned Shepard are known by many as remix artists but they also work on their own original music with their host of performance and production tools.

We discussed these things in a video on our YouTube channel but if you want to see the full interview, check out the transcript below.

What’s going on here at the Wynn Encore?

Sultan: It’s insane. You got every big act DJ, celebrity, everyone. It’s just the place to be and if you’re not here you are

Top 10 Products Announced at Winter NAMM 2012

The Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California is always a lot of fun for the UniqueSquared Team.  We have captured content for the last 2 years, specifically to cover and report on the hottest and latest gear in the realm of remix, recording, live PA, and DJing.  Not surprising, there were some huge announcements from a lot of the major manufacturers and some from those that are less well known. In addition to running around the show floor with cameras, our team got a chance to talk at length to some of the product specialists at their booths. After the same memorized overview and sales pitch that they recite thousands of times for the whole week, they got down to the dirt of what they were trying to hock. After careful consideration, the UniqueSquared team has put together their Top 10 Product Announcements from NAMM 2012.

Line 6 Stagescape M20d – First Look at NAMM

Ok, we just had our first look at Line 6′s new stage monitoring/ FOH all in one solution. The new M20d 20 input smart mixing system for live sound is one of those products that, on first look, produces a bit of head scratching. After  few minutes though, you realize this might be one of the coolest things ever. I hung out for a quick demo of the system and have to admit I was pretty impressed. The device is incredibly minimalist in design; with 7 buttons on the top panel, one big dial and 12 rotary encoders. The rotary encoders themselves are not labeled. Given current tech trends, you have probably guessed that that giant screen in the center is a touchscreen interface and that these dials are multi function depending what devices you have selected. (You’re so smart. That’s why we like you… and you thought it was …
