Sonic Youth has recent been on a role and seems to be energized in the wake of current events. After having their stolen guitars recovered after more than 10 years of having them gone, the band has also dug through old recording and footage, hoping to release or re-release old music that never got the see the light of day.
Lee Ranaldo is also planning to release a documentary of their 1986 United States Tour in which the band had access to the first truly “portable” video camera – and it may be the first actual video footage of the group in their younger years.…

It has been announced that the weekend festivals set to take place on two separate weekends, May 10th -12th and June 21st -23rd , will be hosted by All Tomorrow’s Parties and Deerhunter. They will take place at the Camber Sands Holiday Centre in Minehead, England.
A total of 35 bands are expected to perform at these two events. Meanwhile, New York is throwing its own festival in the same spirit known as “I’ll be Your Mirror”, in Manhattan. Big names in R&B, Rap, and rock are expected to make appearances at this one as well.…

Gear hoarding is similar to drug addiction for electronic music enthusiasts, and it affects everyone. Fortunately, most of us do not have deep enough pockets to satisfy our craving for more and more gear to stick in a tiny room. Also, there are few artists who actually use more than just a handful of equipment to produce what they need in a live show.
This is not true for Magic Pockets. In his Rusty’s Revenge video he creates his own music using an obscene amount of gear that surrounds him like a surgeon with operating tools. His set is live and organic, so he’s not afraid to accept that he’ll probably make some mistakes along the way.…

Music festivals are one of the few concert events that have just about everything for everyone. You can go to the Vans Warped Tour and see your favorite punk bands of yesteryear, or a young band who finally made it to one of the smaller stages and everything in between. Lollapalooza, Coachella, and Bonnaroo have varying acts with different styles even if they are generally in the same genre of music. These are just a few of the biggest music festivals of the year and annually they accommodate tens of thousands of people.
One music festival that was completely off my radar was the three day electronic music festival Ultra. I first heard about Ultra when the UniqueSquared Mobile Studio visited Miami last year for the Winter Music Conference 2011.
