Mackie Thump 12 Overview

Mackie have been putting out some great loudspeakers over the past few years with a wide range of power handling. Their latest release is an update to the already popular THUMP line of speakers with the Thump 12, Thump 15, and Thump 18S subwoofer. We decided to take a closer look at the Mackie Thump 12 for those of you in need of a new set of powered loudspeakers.

Power and Design

The Mackie Thump 12 and 15 both feature 1000 watts of class D power. They feature 12 and 15 inch woofers respectively and both have a high quality 1.4 inch Titanium Dome Compression driver. The internal parts are all housed inside a rugged polypropylene casing which make the speaker both lightweight and durable. Mackie SRM550 Powered Loudspeaker Review

Mackie’s latest foray into the powered loudspeaker market is with their SRM Series which includes the SRM650, the SRM1850 Sub, and the focus of this review, the SRM550. Mackie says they are “built like a tank,” and I can tell you with certainty that these speakers are definitely built for the road. While they carry all the power to withstand even the most abusive touring artist, they are quite light at 37 lbs., which makes them an easy carry for even the laziest member of your crew. iPad Controlled Digital Mixing Console Comparison

The Apple iPad has quickly become more than just a tablet for reading books and watching video. It is now a fully functional tool for doing all sorts of things including controlling your home security system, creating music, or having control of your home entertainment system. The pro audio world has found new and interesting ways of incorporating the iPad as well. Keyboard controllers, audio interfaces, DJ controllers, and live sound mixers are all getting a tech facelift with the application of the iPad. Mackie DLM Powered Loudspeaker Overview

In late August, Mackie unveiled their new line of powered loudspeakers, the DLM Series. The event was hosted in Seattle, WA and Unique Squared was there to capture the event on video. In the video, Matt Redman walks us through the features of the new line which include overviews of the DL2 Digital Mixer, their TruSource speaker technology, as well as the 2000 watt, energy efficient power source. With its compact size and portability, this is sure to make many mobile DJs and gigging musicians very happy. Choosing the Right Portable PA System
