My Mixtape: Volume 1 “The Road Trip”

For more than two decades I’ve been making mixtapes. Yeah, not necessarily defined in the same way they are today by artists who are promoting themselves and their label mates or collaborators. I’m talking about the old school mixtape that existed on a cassette. I’m talking about the ones you made for road trips, house parties, and most probably prepubescent love affairs. ANYWAY, some of you can relate to this and I’m asking all of you to submit your favorite tracks based on a topic I will provide each week. We will select the best ones and put it on a mixtape for all of you to enjoy the following week.

NI Traktor Kontrol S2 Review

Oh, my what a difference a year makes for Native Instruments. Almost a year ago we were all introduced to arguably the most anticipated Traktor dj controller to date, the Kontrol S4. It combined Traktor Scratch, the X1, and dare I say Maschine (construction wise) into one complete package and made many djs, including myself, cheat on their turntables. I officially made the switch by Thanksgiving after reconciling with my turntables. Native Instruments will further tempt the purists by releasing it’s latest offering, the Kontrol S2. We dropped some quick Hors d’oeuvres on you last month about the S2, and now we are lucky enough to have received an advance unit sent to our studios for a test drive.

NI Traktor Kontrol S2: O Lil’ Brother, Where Art Thou?

Native Instruments recently announced that their new Kontol S4 will be in stores in October. As always, we are excited to see new products from NI considering the success of hotties like Machine and the S4. The S2 is a 2 deck Traktor controller based on the popular and ever dominating 4 deck S4 controller. Here’s the black and white:

Numark iDJ Live and Direct!

When I first saw the Numark iDJ Live at Winter NAMM earlier this year it took every ounce of my Kung Fu to give it any serious consideration. How could Numark release such a novelty item after having recently released some of the most technologically advanced DJ gear in the past year? Well, I have to say after having an opportunity to demo it here in our studio that I am very impressed. It was very easy to set-up, had a very clean lay out, and most of all it was a lot of fun to use.
