Is it possible for a pair of headphones to become better than just a pair of headphones? We already have the bases covered for almost any type of buyer and user out there. If you want to pay top dollar and have everything, Pioneer makes a pair of super expensive headphones that look great and promise to be comfortable. However, many will find that taking a pair of these with you on the road seems like a risk that isn’t worth it. Then you have your super cheap headphones that you wouldn’t mind losing if they were taken on vacation with you.
They DO make sets of headphones that you would be willing to take with you while having great performance, but these are harder to find. More often than not, you are going to sacrifice a few attributes to get what you want at a lower cost. Those that …

There are few things from Pioneer that I can say that I don’t really like. For the most part, it is hard to use something from Pioneer and feel like it is cheap. Even their worst entry level DJM mixer is pretty rad in comparison to the other offerings at the price range. Their CDJs have always been ahead of the field and their newest MIDI controllers have both looks and features. However, there is one field where Pioneer simply doesn’t win, and that is the headphone market. That is not to say that their headphones are nice, they are very nice – it is just that they can be too much for what many DJs want.

You see it all the time – and some of these athletes and celebrities do a much better job of selling the product than others. How many times have we see Shaq trying to endorse a new car or even some sort of shoe? Now, I would feel much better hearing that his intention was to endorse a shoe rather than a car, because this guy has probably had problems finding the correct shoe size to wear. When it comes to a car, I’m sure he could choose whatever he wants.
When a DJ or producer sets out to endorse a pair of earphones, the relationship between the product and the spokesman is sometimes much harder to make. I think the trouble is trying to match the product …

In the last few years, we have seen many tech companies step outside their safe box and into the realm of others. On the music side, Ableton would have to be the winner in terms of making their entry into the hardware game. They did a good job of spending time on their first product, and their sale reflect this as well. In computing, Microsoft did the opposite, by branding devices with their logo instead of just their operating systems. On the pure DJ side, we don’t see this happen often, and this has more to do with public opinion and history than anything else. Pioneer is awesome at making CD and digital decks, but when you hear about them stepping into the speaker and earphone game – it makes your question their reasons.
Do they somehow think that they will make a killing the way Dr. Dre and Monster …
