Roland SPD-SX Sampling Pad Review

Its been close to a decade since we last saw a sampling pad from Roland with the SPD-S. The latest version in this sampling pad line, the Roland SPD-SX, is the combination of features from Roland’s own engineers as well as those requested by the public in terms of what they wanted to see on a sampling pad. Sampling pads are nothing new in the world of digital based percussion but with new crops of rock bands and electronic music makers using them in live scenarios, more and more drummers are starting to utilize the expansive technology within pad triggered sampling devices. For drummers looking to expand their pallet, this is a great tool which you can completely customize so you can leave the laptop at home.

So maybe you’re a DJ looking to add more dynamics to your live set, or maybe you’re a drummer who wants to …

NI Traktor Kontrol S2 Review

Oh, my what a difference a year makes for Native Instruments.  Almost a year ago we were all introduced to arguably the most anticipated Traktor dj controller to date, the Kontrol S4.  It combined Traktor Scratch, the X1, and dare I say Maschine (construction wise) into one complete package and made many djs, including myself, cheat on their turntables.  I officially made the switch by Thanksgiving after reconciling with my turntables.  Native Instruments will further tempt the purists by releasing it’s latest offering, the Kontrol S2.  We dropped some quick Hors d’oeuvres on you last month about the S2, and now we are lucky enough to have received an advance unit sent to our studios for a test drive.

Set Up

The Kontrol S2 comes will be shipping with the a newly updated Traktor Pro 2 which is convenient if you want to upgrade the the S4 in the …

  • NHL protocol

Essentially, the S2 let’s you rock on 2 decks plus 1 sample channel with the same awesome effects, looping, and hot cues as it’s big brother S4.  It …

Numark NS6 Overview

We unveiled this much anticipated controller with Mike Hoska at the Winter Music Conference in Miami earlier this year and we were very excited to test it out ourselves.  The NS6 will arguably be the best selling Serato Itch controller this year.  I’ve had more questions asked to me about this controller than any other controller we have in stock put together.  Why?  It’s quite simple.

The Numark NS6 is:

  • A 4 Deck Serato Itch controller with a versatile layout
  • A 4 channel metal chassis stand alone DJ mixer
  • A turntablist’s dream with ultra sensitive, highly accurate, weighted jog wheels
  • A remixer’s dream with 12 high quality effects and 5 responsive hot cues
  • A 24-bit audio interface with balanced XLR outputs and dedicated booth outputs
  • Priced under $1000

We know there are many questions yet to come about this amazing controller especially after it’s release in June.  Please feel free …

DJ Life And Timeslots: Danny M Takes The NS6 To The Streets

It’s good in Atlanta, especially for the busiest DJ in town, Danny M.  We invited Danny to the studio to test drive the yet unreleased Numark NS6 DJ Controller.  We captured some footage of his in-studio session, and then he brought it out to the Koo Koo Room in midtown ATL for one of his many prime time gigs.

Danny M is one of the most sought after DJs in Atlanta.  His background is from the underground dance music scene. His meticulous, technical style of mixing allows him to be very versatile in the more mainstream high energy nightclubs throughout the city. It is easy to become a fan after watching him work the crowd, create live remixes, while dancing in and out of musical genres effortlessly. All the while keeping a Moscow Mule close for good measure.  Danny M is a DJ’s DJ and a true professional who …
