Analyzing DJ/Producer Names For Success

There is simply too much in a name these days, and the days of using a simple artist name is over.  Sure, there are those who can go by their real name, but even movie stars know when their real name is just too boring to sell.  Vin Diesel sounds pretty cool, but his real name is way too typical for an action movie star.  The same can be said about DJs.  There needs to be a balance between what their name is and what their name means.  The cool ones tend to have some sort of double meaning that takes a few seconds to wrap your head around.

Others are just too ambiguous to figure out, and that works well for them too.  Skrillex, for example, has no real meaning behind it.  Is it some sort of object we use to fry eggs on every morning?  It must …

Dubstep Christmas Lights

Depending on where you live, the holiday season brings out the best and worst in people.  I don’t mean Christmas cheer or real life Grinches that cant’ stand the holidays, but rather, the types of decorations people put up around their houses.  Holiday lights are pretty standard – and with LED technology it means that we don’t have to deal with shattered glass bulbs or short circuiting like we used to.  In fact, with all the cool LED modules and decorations that are out there, one can be even more creative and take Christmas decorations to a whole different level.

Years ago, one eccentric neighbor went “all out” with his lighting and used sequenced Christmas lights that flashed to different patterns, based on the song that was playing.  I believe he played his tunes from a loudspeaker placed around his house.  The next year, he took it a bit further …

IK Multimedia ARC System 2

You may not like anything about Skrillex (say his hair, or his music), but he is certainly adept at producing “professional sounding” music with less than desirable equipment.  His first album was created using nothing more than a laptop and some no-name speakers.  If you’ve found yourself in the same type of situation: bad hair and bad speakers – you might benefit from IK Multimedia’s new ARC System 2 software.

ARC System 2 was designed for one purpose; to fix audio problems derives from poor equipment or equipment placement.  The software only requires a calibration mix and an audio interface.  It then takes samples and corrects leveling and noise, based on known audio geometry.…

Le Castle Vania: Guidance for Beginners

Producers and DJ’s: tune in for this final part of Le Castle Vania’s interview. If you are an up and coming artist, you should give this a listen. Wanna-be’s and copycats plague every genre of music and it’s no surprise. Just turn the radio dial to a Clear Channel or Cumulus station and listen to the first five songs that play. Le Castle Vania doesn’t say anything revolutionary in this part of his interview, it’s not the first time anyone has ever said it, but the more advocates that come forward and say it and the more artists will take the message to heart. In case you missed it, you should also check out Le Castle Vania talking about his personal studio gear.

My advice to DJ’s and producers that are trying to come up is to always be aware of what’s going on in the sound but
