Pressing the record button and practicing or mixing under the gun is a nerve wrecking experience for many. Just the thought of knowing that you are being record can shake you up enough to damage your confidence behind the decks. Any DJ who says that they never feel the heat when they are on the spot is lying to you, every DJ, even the best DJs, still feel the stress when they are up on stage or being recorded live. The trick is harder than it seems, and that is to forget about the fact that you are being recorded.
For those that DO like to record themselves often, the next step is to make something of these recordings. Putting them on Soundcloud is a good approach, but it still requires listeners to search out your recordings and listing, why not bring them to the listener? A Podcast is much …

If I were to come to you with a sales pitch in person, face to face, man to man, don’t you think I would have a better shot at convincing you that I’m worth your time – rather than an email with links and phrases? Or does the reverse seem to be true? Perhaps without an internet outlet or social media website our words and opinions have little weight in the real world. Saying that one form of communication is better than another is foolish, but there ought to be a balance between what is real and what is virtual these days.
A physical business card is the starting point for DJs and producers who want you to remember your name – but ultimately there will be fickle reasons why you are remembered. Someone might hint that you are worth a short or perhaps your DJ name is funny enough …

Having some sort of social media outlet is key to maintain a certain image of your brand or perhaps your band. As a DJ, there is often little we know about you until you open your mouth, and since DJs use their hands instead of their mouths to talk – you’ll need another way of speaking your mind. There are the big three social media networks that will help you with your cause, but it won’t be made easy for you. Just having a page, like a business card, is not really enough. That is the old way of saying “hello”. These days you are going to need to more interactive and friendly with your guests, even though you may never meet them face to face.
