Native Instruments Komplete 9: Is It Worth Upgrading?

Forums, news feeds, social media networks, and email in boxes lit up Monday with the announcement from Native Instruments that their immensely popular Komplete software instrument suite will be getting an update from version 8 to the new version 9. This comes nearly two years after the Komplete 8 update which came out in the late summer of 2011. The official release of Komplete 9 is March 27th but we now know what instruments and effects will be included in the update which you can read in detail here.

The big question for most of us is: Should we bother upgrading? Are we going to be getting anything worthwhile out of this update? Dave Grohl, Sound City, and The Great Analog Debate

On January 31st 2013, the limited theatrical release of Dave Grohl’s documentary Sound City premiered to an eager public. The story is as much about Sound City, its staff, and the records made there, as it is a story about the famed Neve recording console, Grohl’s all star compilation record, and a much larger discussion about analog recording techniques, when compared to the introduction and proliferation of digital technology from the 80s into today.

Despite what some critics are saying, it’s a very well done documentary, especially from someone that …

Moog Factory Tour: An Introduction

While at Moogfest 2012 we were fortunate enough to have Orbital and Chad Hugo demo the sounds they created for the new all white Moog Slim Phatty. We also got an exclusive demonstration of using control voltage with the Moog Minitaur and a selection of Moogerfooger pedals. Even after the amazing shows at Moogfest we still wanted more Moog so we asked Jim Debardi to take us on a tour of the Moog Factory to show us how they make their instruments, the history behind Bob Moog and the factory, and a sneak peek into the new technologies they are designing.

In our introductory video Jim gives us a brief history of Bob Moog while also providing some infromation as to how the inner workings of the factory function. All Moog products are hand made (with the exception of the t-shirts, hats, and knick-knacks we couldn’t leave Asheville without) …
