Pioneer DDJ-WeGO 3 Preview

The popular Pioneer DDJ-WeGO has arrived at its third iteration with the aptly dubbed DDJ-WeGO 3. This two deck DJ controller is best met with an iPad and the Algoriddim djay2 app, but it can also be used with Mac or PC to control Virtual DJ, Serato DJ, or Traktor Pro 2. Serato DJ and Virtual DJ should work out of the box, but Traktor Pro 2 will require you to download or create your own TSI mapping file. You can also connect the DDJ-WeGO 3 to your iPhone or iPod touch. You can load tracks into the app via your iTunes Library or, as Pioneer’s website notes, you can load tracks via your Spotify account. This is mostly an entry level controller and more advanced DJs might find this a bit limiting for certain gigs. This might serve better as a mobile solution for smaller gigs, but it is …

Numark 4Trak Review

Numark is back, this time with the release of their new dedicated Traktor 2 controller, the 4Trak.  I have always been forthcoming in admitting that I am an avid Native Instruments Traktor Scratch Pro fan, and that I am also a Kontrol S4 user.  We at Unique Squared also recognize that Traktor is one of the most widely used DJ software worldwide, hence our mapping segments with the M-Audio Torque Xponent and the ever popular Numark NS6.  We were super excited to see that Numark was releasing the 4Trak when we first saw it at Winter Namm earlier this January. Well, we finally appropriated a demo unit here at the Unique Squared studios just last week and got an opportunity to check it out.

For decades Numark has been delivering some of the best DJ products to hungry, perspective DJs as well as professional DJs worldwide.  But it has …

Numark N4 with Traktor Pro 2

This mapping may not work with the latest version of Traktor.

A couple weeks ago, we got a Numark N4 into our studio and tested it out. We used the unit with both Virtual DJ and Serato Intro, which are both included in the box. What we found is that the N4 is one of the best DJ controllers for an intro DJ looking to be able to do video DJing too. Since the N4 is built for video DJs in mind, one thing we noticed that was the availability of hotcues on the mappings for Virtual DJ and Serato Intro. We really wanted to be able to have access to hotcues when using the N4 with Traktor and built a mapping with this in mind.

To start out with a structure for the mapping, we used what Numark provided on their website for mapping the N4 with Traktor Pro 2. The …

Torq Xponent with Traktor Pro 2

This mapping may not work with the latest version of Traktor.

The Torq Xponent was designed specifically for use with Torq DJ software (included) and we had the opportunity to get funky with Torq a few months ago and found it to be very cool and quite intuitive.  The Xponent controller translates the software flawlessly, has massive touch sensitive jog wheels, and a super clean layout with LED backlit, rubberized pads and buttons.  It is a medium sized compared to other controllers, and very lightweight with a durable plastic construction.  It is DC powered, with RCA main and booth outputs, MIDI in/out, with foot switch and expression pedal inputs.  It’s definitely a good looking controller that works well with both Torq and many other DJ software.

With great controllerism comes great responsibility…with your money.  That’s why we put together a blazing hot bundle for those of you who want to …
