MIXVIBES ADD VIDEO PLUG IN

Before Serato had a solid footing in the DVS market, there were other less put together alternatives to the same problem.  DJs want to be able to spin mp3s using vinyl control records, but the technology and software that existed at the time was problematic at best.  It was very difficult to use without the feeling that it might crash if you overloaded the program.  Virtual DJ was one of the first sorts of open source programs that could be used with an aftermarket USB card – but even in the beginning, there was functionality that allowed it to be used with video DJing.  Video DJing never became as popular as some would imagine, but it is not due to the lack of creativity within a DJ’s head, it came down to logistical problems.

Since videos could often be a gigabyte or more at time, the thought of storing hundreds …

PLAiR Streaming Stick

I think that it is safe to say that no technology out there has been as innovative and useful as the smart phone.  The smartphone didn’t happen overnight either; it took the span of decades to get the formula just right.  There was a need for cameras, cellular phones, and pocket devices – but few had figured out how to combine them into one unit without creating a giant mess.  This is only half the story though because without the need for video games and other types of media, the smartphone would be nothing more than a bloated PDA.  The direction that it is heading is also something to be questioned.

Televisions have already been combined with the internet as well as wireless audio.  This means that not only do we have access to different forms of media on the fly; these devices can all communicate with each other.  One …

Quickstand Portable Projector Screen Review

Flat panel LED displays are becoming so common that even those with very low income can afford to make such a purchase.  Before the use of LEDs and Plasma was perfected – regular cathode ray tubes were the only option when going big.  They were bulky, heavy, and typically took more than one man to carry them across the room.  If you wanted to go bigger you literally needed to have a squared amount of these cubes packed together in some ungodly formation.  At that time, projectors were also in their infancy and were either costly, hard to maintain, or both.

Now that flat panel LED screens are so common, we have figured out that it doesn’t require three men to lift a 50 inch flat screen TV in the room – but that doesn’t make them portable either.  The next generation of projectors might be a better option.  Projectors …

Easter Fun: DJ Heads Video

People tend to think that having a good competition brings out the best in people, allowing them to rise to the occasion – but in the world of DJing it is very possible that the opposite is also true.  It is a sad fact that when equipment prices drop and the market is saturated with too much gear, the pool of talent will grow bigger – but it will also fill with less talented people.  I have no qualms about that – but there are too many DJs with an inflated sense of self worth.  Basically, where did all the talent go?

Head to any online DJ competition and you won’t be surprised to hear every DJ sounding the same.  It’s like they all have the same battle records and the same coach telling them what to play for the audience.  The true pioneers and innovators in the scene …

Visual Apex ProjectoScreen120

The video DJ is few and far in between, but when you get the experience of meeting one, it is a welcomed sight for sore eyes.  At every club we go to we are bombarded with noise, but our eyes are focused on different tasks.  Our eyes are scanning the other members of the dance floor – but the low light settings as well as the amount of lighting fixtures in the club make it hard to concentrate.  Club owners gamble on low lighting and the occasional laser or strobe to help distract us from the outside world.  When a video DJing is spinning, they have some sort of visual aspect to keep us entrained with the music, and it works much better than lighting that moves with the music.

The problem is that setting up a projection screen or a television in a club is not easy to do, …
